The wing on the back will not flatten to hold the heater in....

Help I some one out there has do this, what did you do to make it work or did you use another brand of block heatrer???

Thanks

Looked at the Kats plug it looks like the NH blockheater same sort of spreading wing to hold. My problem was the "wings did not spread out enought to hold the heater in tight enough. Any Idea on how to make this work??

The only thing I have seen on this site is you have to fool around with it a bit to make work.

I am looking at redesigning the locking tab to a larger flat bar vs. the stock spreadign design. From what I can see the depth of the NH part is pretty equal to the thickness of the block. Since the wings do not flatten out the heater will not hold tight.

Anyone have any expirence with this? or do you guys just order an aftermarket and say your done?

The wings should project slightly onto the block wall. It still has to provide freeze protection to the water jacket casting. It only has to hold back 15psi so it doesn't have to hold with much force. All I've seen are made with the wing style. You may have a rough spot on the inside of the casting that is causing the problem. Flat bar would propably fix the one you have.

Sounds like you got the wrong part! Philips-Temro usually makes the NH block heaters. Google them and see if you can find the correct part number in their catalog.

I had the same trouble with mine four years ago. I was lucky in that I had the old one, which had a almost-flat-stock spreader (IIRC). I think you can make one that you can tip into the opening, though you might need a longer center bolt to hold it in. The wings were bent back toward the exterior a little so tightening the bolt caused the wings to bite the sides of the casting hole. It'll take some trial and error. Not much room in there, I recall. I assume you snapped the bolt trying to get it tight enough to hold coolant? I agree the new spreader could be stronger - mine leaked instantly. NH heater kit part # was 86590117.

Wow what a serendipitous thread! I was about to come on here and begin searching for "1110 engine block heaters".

I'm in the same boat. I need a recommendation for a bh. I hope to not hijack your thread MD. My 1110 has only been mine for two weeks, I'm just learning it's ropes. MD, or anybody else, do you know what size bh the 1110 needs? Is it a 40mm one like the katz because if so I may order one?

Thanks to anyone with info. Hope I didn't hijack.

Update on the block heater.....

Right now it is a bit on the cool side for Maryland teens and 20s, sine I do nto have a heated shed/garage I resolved teh startign issue with a Heatign blanket..... just drape it over the hood and turn it on high for a few hours before starting. So far since the little critter is out of the elements ( In a shed) it is working OK.

Jonah,

If you are having real problems starting and after reading you expirence with the front end, you may want to investigate the glow plugs. You will have trouble starting even if only one is not fnctioning correctly. The other thing I do is cycle the glow plug a couple of times when it is real cold and mine usually starts right up. No worries about hi jacking the thread....

MD09 .... I had the exact same scenario with my T1030 last year. I tried three times to get the OEM heater to seal ....... finally put the odd sized freeze plug back in ( that I had to wait two days to get ) ... threw the heater in the trash and vowed to not buy any more of the New Holland crap.
