Installed my dealer purchased block heater yesterday.....what a great little addition to my BX. It works extremely well. I plugged it in for two hours or less and the entire engine was nice and toasty. It started instantly even on a cold Vermont night. I have to think this is a great little addition. I highly advise one for any machine.

I agree wholeheartedly! I never had problems starting in the bitter cold, but it gives me peace of mind that I'm doing the right thing getting it all warmed up before running it. Cheapest insurance I've bought yet for my BX...

I kept the heater plugged in for about three hours over the weekend just to see how warm it would get. Wow, it gets more than warm, the engine block was hot to the touch. I'm thinking no more than two hours are required.

I just picked up a 200W magnetic oilpan heater for 20 bucks at Auto Zone and we'll see if it makes any difference. First I bought their 300W for $30 but it was too big to fit the engine compartment.

The smaller 200W version is about 2"x4" with a grab handle on one end. I hope I can attach this one to the bottom of the oilpan.

I picked up one of those small magnetic heaters too, Bill. It looked like a quick and cheap solution. 200W should be plenty for that little BX engine.

Unfortunately, or maybe it's fortunately, I haven't had to use it yet this winter. It's been unseasonably warm in . It hasn't been below zero yet, and only a couple days in the teens. The BX started without complaining in the teens. Fortunately, I can keep it in an insulated, but unheated, barn.

Ed, I keep my BX in an attached garage so I probably don't need one in terms of being able to start or prolonging the engine. If I drive in with ice on the car the ice is always melting by morning. I just want to speed up the warm up period by a couple minutes.

Jim
I purchased one just before Christmas. Haven't installed it yet. From your comments I'll have to make that one of my weekend projects before it does get cold here in Michigan.

A block heater is on my list of must have items. Will attach it to a timer to come on 2 hours before I am going to start it.

Ditto on my L3010, Jim. Clementine came with one, but I never plugged her in till learning some of the benefits here on TBN. She starts so much easier, and is ready to go so much faster...I'm a convert!
