Bluebirds are cavity nesters. So, in the olden days before people put up fancy nest boxes, they nested in holes in trees. I'd bet your do, too.
yep, we have a lot of holy trees here. :D

Yep. And then people cut down all the trees with holes in them, so now we have to build bird houses.

40 years ago it was rare to see Bluebirds here. No one put up nests here either. The nests I stumbled onto were in hedge fence posts that had split from age.

Good point. The move to metal posts was also a factor in their decline.

Is it normal to have Blue Birds this far North in January?? I'm 6 miles South of the Missouri/Iowa border in Northwestern Missouri.

Richard,
Just to show you Bluebirds are in the North in the winter, this little guy survived the minus 13 degrees last night. Right now it is minus 1 but in the sun where the feeder is located it is 26 degrees.

Not good pictures as I took them quick through dirty, double layer glass plus a screen on the outside over the sink.
Normally I shoot through double insulated glass from a French door that has no screen and they are much better but I was eating lunch so no time to be particular.

Your images on your first post now have an add for photo bucket in place of but clicking on them still goes to the images in the bucket. The rest of your albums are still available too, so you still need to do some security set up.

Yeah, that's ate up. The only fix I can find so far is to lock the folders. I think if I do that all the pics I've posted here will disappear. I guess we'll see.

That's my Son's 1953 M38A1.
