A couple weeks ago, I saw my neighbor's 4310 being run onto a trailer with blue smoke pouring from its exhaust.

It was returned today. Saw my neighbor walking back from getting the mail and asked him about it. He said it was something to do with the fuel pump. Replaced on warranty. Has 150 hours on it. He got his 4310 about 6 months or so before I got my 4010, which has nearly 180 hours now.

Blue smoke often times indicates excessive oil is being burned in the combustion process. If the Injection pump was replaced there is a good chance that the seal that seperates the oil system from the fuel started to leak and was pouring engine oil into his fuel system. A quick way to tell is check your fuel tank. The majority of all diesel engines return unused fuel to the fuel tank via a "return line". If oil is getting into the fuel system you will find your fuel is coal black and that your engine oil level is going down but with no visable leaks on the engine.
