Kubota B7800
Folks,

I have 15 hours on by B7800. I've noticed that when I start it after sitting for a few days to a week, I get a puff of blueish smoke and a knock or two. Today I started it after not running it for more than a week and I got blue smoke for about 5 seconds with loud running for the 5 seconds. I do use some of the white bottle Power Service and I let it idle for 5 minutes or so before I turn it off.

Is this blueish smoke anything to be concerned about? Thanks.

Not at all, it happens to all diesel's especially when the temps drop a bit.

Relax, everything sounds fine.
The Kubota engine you have is next to bullet proof.
The engine might even puff a small amount of smoke if you quickly power up or put it under a sudden heavy load.ie engage pto equipment or lift a heavy load.
I don't think you need to let it idle for 5 min before shutting down. If you where only doing light/medium work 1 min If under heavy load ie rototiller work or pulling a plow 2-3 min. will work.
Enjoy/work it....thats what it was made for!
Nice tractor and good luck

Is the smoke more light grey to white? That is normal if you don't cycle the glowplugs long enough. 5-10 seconds on the glowplugs should yield a good start with charcoal grey smoke, then let it idle for another 20-30 seconds before throttling up. Of course, winter temps require longer glow plug warm-up.

I've found with mine, if I throttle up only slightly when still cold, it coughs and chugs and spits out light grey smoke, but if I throttle it up a bit higher, the added heat clears it up pretty quick and gets it running smooth - that's if I don't give it enough idle warm up.

But it's always good to give a diesel a minute or two to warm up before getting to work.

Iisn't the B7800 equipped with a preheater too? Anyway seriously consider a salamander or use one if you own one-the kerosene kind to preheat the tractor as it will help tremedously no matter the weather. Great for scaring rodents too.:cool:

He keep me in mind as I would like to know what you think about the B7800 as I am looking to upgrade and replace my wheelhorse of 15 years-cant buy parts anymore or a new seat etc.

Thanks guys. You put me at ease. I've worked the tractor good from 4 hours. I have pto work to do, so I can't baby it. But I haven't abused it and I haven't run more than PTO speed which is that the manual says.

Yes the smoke is on the grey to white side. I glowed it for 3 secs and the temp was about 60f, so maybe that was part of it. And yes, I do notice a little puff of smoke when I thottle up quickly from idle to 1600.

Thanks again.

You remind me of a new parent bringing that first baby home from the hospital.

I know.... I did it with the kid AND THE TRACTOR.

Have fun!
