Blueberrys

I still have about 2 weeks before i can pick blueberry's.

We have been getting a lot of strawberry's.....and the raspberry's are just now starting to get ripe....It will be over a month before i can pick blackberry's.

How do you all keep the birds out of your blueberry's???

Tally: Blueberrys like acid soil, have a soil test done and if the pH is higher than 5.5, you need to add something like horticultural sulpher to lower the pH.

I put coffee grounds around my blueberry's and that puts acid in the soil.

My apples are almost ripe now. I think I should have thinned them out on the tree because the tree is too small to support them.

If I depended on farming for a living, I would have gone bankrupt a long time ago.

Those apples look fine to me. I have seen small trees like that with 3-4 times that much on easily.

Some folks train the trees into a weeping shape by tying bricks to the branches as they grow. That way the limbs don't break when they bend down with the weight of all the apples, as they are used to growing like that.

Tally - - what kind of apple tree is that? & how long has it been in the ground?

Oh, just so I don't totally hijact this thread, I've been picking blueberries for a couple of weeks. In about a week we'll be swamped with them.

I got that tree at Lowe's a few years ago. I believe it is an Anna. It was about 5' when we planted it year before last and it had 3 apples 6 months later. Last year it had about 10 apples and this year we counted 30 apples, though they are rather small.

I did a ph test and it showed about 5.5. A little lower would probably be a little better.
