Bobcat 235 Electrical Problem

I have a Bobcat 235 with an intermittent electrical problem. When I turn the key to the starting position and it makes a quiet thud I know that the tractor will start. When I turn the key to the starting position and it makes a loud crack it will not start. Has anyone had this problem. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
