Thanks for the reply Winston.Depends on what you are mowing. Heavy stuff, no, light stuff yes. And you don't have to cut 5'. I ran a 5 footer on a Yanmar 20 pto hp for several years. Just have to use good common sense in doing it.
Thank u for that info!I run a 5' bush hog on my 28hp Montana. Cuts 3' grass no problem. See if you can rent or borrow one to test on your tractor.
Excellent ADVICE thank u! I purchased a nice used one, anyway! Just picked up last nite. Going to sharpen blades, and try it out.I have the identical CT225 and run a 4' cutter only because I had it before getting this tractor. Majority of the time I could easily run a 5'. I can get tractor to start lugging pull down in tall heavy grass if I am running in 2nd (Mid) gear range and travel the same speed in Low without engine lugging down.
Just an operational tip; Full travel speed in low is same travel speed as 1/2 pedal in M and seldom, if ever, do I want to travel any faster than that cutting. The difference in torque loss through the gear range in M vs L put more HP load on the engine. Also the transmission runs slightly cooler due to lower pressure required in HST pump.
When u run it, full engine RPM?
Or, run it where the DIAMOND is?
Can't remember the DIAMOND RPM!
thanks Terry
