Will my 27hp CT225 run a 5' bushog?
Looking at buying one.
Width on tractor is 56"
Thanks Terry

Depends on what you are mowing. Heavy stuff, no, light stuff yes. And you don't have to cut 5'. I ran a 5 footer on a Yanmar 20 pto hp for several years. Just have to use good common sense in doing it.

Thanks for the reply Winston.
Im going to cut 2'-3' grass hay.
Only 2-4 acres.
I have a sickle mower that gives me so much heck, then im using an old horse drawn hay rake mounted on 3 point.
So i cant justify the real expensive stuff.

I run a 5' bush hog on my 28hp Montana. Cuts 3' grass no problem. See if you can rent or borrow one to test on your tractor.

I have the identical CT225 and run a 4' cutter only because I had it before getting this tractor. Majority of the time I could easily run a 5'. I can get tractor to start lugging pull down in tall heavy grass if I am running in 2nd (Mid) gear range and travel the same speed in Low without engine lugging down.

Just an operational tip; Full travel speed in low is same travel speed as 1/2 pedal in M and seldom, if ever, do I want to travel any faster than that cutting. The difference in torque loss through the gear range in M vs L put more HP load on the engine. Also the transmission runs slightly cooler due to lower pressure required in HST pump.

Excellent ADVICE thank u! I purchased a nice used one, anyway! Just picked up last nite. Going to sharpen blades, and try it out.
Thanks for the help!

When u run it, full engine RPM?
Or, run it where the DIAMOND is?
Can't remember the DIAMOND RPM!
thanks Terry

I ran one for over 1500 hours on a ct225. You will be fine unless you run into steep hills and thick grass. May need to go to low range. I ran it around 2800 although sometimes I would throttle it up a bit more.

I assume the diamond on the tachometer indicates where to set the engine in order to get 540 rpm on the PTO. You should run it there.

I know on my tractor I can run a 5' bush hog in mid range on the hydrostatic unless I go up a steep slope and then I have to drop down to low range.
