Bobcat GPS locator killing battery

I think that is a wise decision on your part.

My concern would indeed be theft. Sure.....when they power on to steal....you will get a momentary ping/location......but by the time anyone gets there it will be on a trailer and long gone. Next time its powered on may be 10 states away or even out of the country. Or it may be parted out.

I just looked on Amazon and I’m thinking much smaller, like 20 watt or smaller. Im thinking something that is $60 or less. I throw it somewhere out side the cab and you should be able to hook it up and unhook it in about 30 seconds.

There's another easy way to do it. The GPS could have it's own separate battery. You could either charge it from Bobcat power through an isolation diode (1N5408 or equivalent) to a rechargeable 12v battery (this 7AH would work), or that battery could be trickle charged by small solar panel or ac charger.
That would eliminate parasitic Bobcat drain while supplying GPS with power..
Parts would be about $25.
