Long time no post but I'm working on gathering information for a project machine. Last week I picked up an old M600 with a bad Wisconsin engine. Having had no luck finding a Wisconsin locally I did manage to find the Duetz F2L410 out of an M600D locally on ebay. So fast forward a few days I managed to pick up this Duetz engine, the only catch is there are no glow plugs. I called Hamilton engines (the local Duetz dealer) and they are having a hard time finding anything. Based on my research the glow plugs are specific to the IDI (in-direct injection) F2L410 as the F2L410D and the F2L411 (found in the M611 and countless other machines) are direct injection and utilize a small intake heater instead of glow plugs. I do have some bobcat part numbers pulled from the bobcat online parts catalog:

Duetz F2L410 Part numbers:
Bobcat #6512584 (glow plug)
Bobcat #6516071 (connector, glow plug)
Bobcat #6516069 (wire, glow plug)

Would anyone have the resources to cross reference these part numbers? I've just about exhausted my resources, aside from maybe finding another engine, any help is much appreciated.

Picture of my project loader for reference:

I can't cross any of your numbers but when I wanted to know the correct glow plugs for an older Mitsubishi NGK was able to tell me the one I needed. Some Deutz engines are actually built by Mitsubishi from what I'm told. You might try contacting NGK. They'll even respond to online inquiries.

Making progress! Called bobcat parts and was able to get them to cross reference the bobcat part number to the OE number from Duetz.

Bobcat # 6512584 - Duetz # 117-1352

From there I found the specs on this Beru (Borg Warner) GV144. Hopefully I can cross this number with a domestic glow plug, I’ll post whatever I come up with in case someone ever needs this information on the future since I’ve spent many hours researching this dang glow plug.

Since I’ve had a heck of a time finding parts I figured I’d share this invaluable list I got today from Duetz. These are the parts still available along with their part numbers for the Duetz F2L410 (2cyl) and F1L410 (1cyl). Please note that the F2L411 is a direct injection engine and has a different bore so unfortunately for those of you with say a Bobcat M611 or a 631 are out of luck. I’m sure right at this moment this information may mean nothing to most people but maybe someday these part numbers will make it or break it for someone else since there is next to no information out there on these engines. Side note, Napa was not able to get me glow plugs however Duetz has two on the shelf that I’m hoping to get here soon.

Update time. Got the glow plugs installed and tried to start the Duetz after wiring up a very primitive harness for the glow plugs and lift pump. The starter on it sounded awful but it would get close to starting then kick out the pulley for the governor. Upon this happening he governor would basically shut off the injection pump eliminating the chance of starting the engine.

I originally believed that the retaining bolt for the governor had backed out but after further diagnosis I found the pressed in governor bearing was sliding in and out of the block allowing the governor to slide into the timing cover. One $40 bearing from Napa later as well as a tube of silicone and I finally had the engine on track to start up. While I was at it I also replaced the starter with a used one from a V2003 Kubota engine, installed a Kubota dipstick since mine was broken off at the full line, made a temporary “start box” out of a small plastic tub, an old bobcat ignition switch/volt meter, and a couple relays. Also shot the engine with bobcat grey paint to spruce it up a little.

After bleeding the fuel system and finding that this engine needs a solid 20 seconds with the glow plugs in 60*F weather I finally got the Duetz to fire up. It actually runs pretty good, minimal blow by, although quite loud without a muffler. It has a few minor oil leaks but it’s finally in a state where it can be installed in the M600.

Hi, great info. You have really done a lot of research. I am looking to buy a Bobcat M600D. I dont know if it would be a good investment. They want 2,500 for it. It runs but drive belt needs replaced. Do you think it would be a good deal. Thanks, Rick
