I saw some chat about the ToolCat on another thread here and went on line to check it out. what im I missing here? What are the drawbacks? it seems so impressive that I could: get rid of my tractor, my RTV, all my mowers, and just have one machine to maintenance. that thing has FEL, dump bed, all wheel drive and steer, brush and finishing mowing, 3pt hitch, A/C Cab, etc., etc. If I were in the tractor business, I'd be very worried about the BobCat brand. I guess if you're not a farmer, more of an estate owner, the BobCat is the way to go. Btw, I have no affiliation with any equipment company...I'm just an average dude.

It's fairly complicated and expensive ( $40K). It's hard to make one machine that can do everything.

I've seen them in use at industrial facilities and parks. They are pretty neat!

Some of the hydraulically powered attachments can be pretty pricey. I know the blower for it is over $4K.

They are cool, and yep it's got a loader and a dump bed, but you'll need another loader or a shovel to fill the bed. The loader doesn't lift very high either. I'd still love to have one!

I considered one, the price was $59,500. I then priced a Kubota M7060HDc-12 with FEL and a Kubota ZD331-72. I bought both of these for the same money.

I wouldn't trade mine for any tractor! :D

Here is a older thread with good info. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/buying-pricing-comparisons/130891-toolcat-5610-vs-cut-review.html

my opinion on compromise - you get something that can do lots of things, mybe do some of them well, but will never come close to machine built specially for one of those tasks. now they might do everything you need and that is great, but maybe you would be served better with two or more piece of equipment, cars, etc.

I had one on loan for 30 days while my Bobcat 863 Turbo was in the shop for some routine repair. It was fun and very comfortable to work in that is for sure. However I was very happy to get my older 863 back. I have a grapple, good bucket and forks for my Bobcat and I could not maintain my property without it. For brush removal, leveling, field work, clearing fence rows it is the best. I wish I could find a good deal on the backhoe attachment for it and it would be complete.

I see this opinion expressed a lot and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but in my case I don't know of other machines that will do better than the Toolcat, for what I use it for.

Show me a machine that will do better with a 7' brush hog around trees and on the dam.

I have to admit that the brush hog feature would be hard to beat. I have to use the traditional 3 point hitch 8' brush hog behind my Oliver 1855. Forget about cutting around trees and obstacles. If I could afford the bursh hog that would go on the front of my Bobcat I would do it. That would be heaven.
