BX23......RTV1100
Has anybody had any problems with the BX 23 bogging. The problem comes and goes. in the last 6 to 8 hours of running the machine this weekend. Yes I did add some fuel to the machine thats why I'm thinking it is bad fuel. My first thought was a dirty fuel filter or a bad batch of fuel. I have about 120 hours and its a year old before I do anything I thought I would ask here if anybody had a problem like this.

fuel doesn't go bad with age, but it can get moisture, algae, etc. in it if it isn't properly stored. I suggest draining the fuel and installing new filter and fuel. Then if the problem persists, you will at least know that the fuel system isn't the culprit. Are you using a fuel conditioner with each fill up? If not, you should be. It will eliminate a lot of problems...

Junkman,

What is a fuel conditioner? I see lots of info about treating diesel in really cold parts of the country, is this what you are refering to or is this something you recomend in summer and winter. I only buy diesel as needed (fresh from the oil farm)Is this necesary if you only use fresh diesel from a local gas station? Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The same diesel fuel conditioners that you would use in winter are also used in summer months for better performance of the engine. I had lumber delivered to my home last summer and the engine on the truck was running rough. I put in some conditioner and told the driver about it. He couldn't believe the difference in the way it was running by the time that he got back to the yard. Called the next day to get the name of it and has been using it ever since. I use Power Service in the white bottle, however there are many good brands out there. Wally World is the least expensive for the Power Service and some stores even carry one in the grey bottle that claims to increase the cetane of the fuel. Never used that one, so I can't comment on it...

There seem to be parts of the country that have consistent problems with lousy quality diesel fuel, however, the problem fortunately doesn't seem to be nationwide. Unless you have poor diesel fuel quality in your part of the country, the conditioners don't do much for you in the summer time. We are fortunate here to have good quality diesel fuel, so the only time I add anything is in winter when I add an anti-gel.

Once the entire country is on the new Ultra Low Sulfur content diesel fuel next year, and if the gov't doesn't require additional lubricity agents to be added by the supplier/manufacturer, then we may all be adding conditioners to our tanks year-round. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I hope they standardize fuel nationwide.

I wish they would standardize gasoline! Last I read there was something like 40 ( FORTY ) differant types of gasoline for differant regions of the country. (Oxygenated or non-oxygenated using differant addatives, etc.) This is half the problem with prices, every local region has "laws" mandating differant addative packages. What a political joke.

Not with my BX, but I did have with my B2910. It would run fine and then lose power, to the extent that the engine would hardly run with the clutch pushed in and no load on it except for the hydraulic pump with nothing being operated.

Then it would work fine again, under heavy load, for a while, before again almost dying...

Turned out to be the fuel filter. I had 380 hours on the tractor and it was due for a fuel filter change at 400 hours. New filter, no more problems...now have 550 hours on the second filter...still runs like new...

Don't write off the fuel filter as the problem. I know it does not make sense, as it seem the filter should just clog up and be done with it. But that is not what was happening with mine...work a bit...lose power big time....work hard for a while again...

My warranty was running out at the time, and I had made arrangements for my dealer to pick up the tractor...but decided to change the fuel filter just in case...it was that bad...had me pretty worried...easy fix...I'll now change my fuel filter a hundred hours early, from now on.

I does sound like a fuel filter.

Dealer had me change mine when I did my 50 HR service(100 hours now) I probably will go by the book from here on out but maybe after reading this I will keep a set of spares (2 on the BX)

If the fuel was perfect we would never need to change them.

I do use Power Service and the maintenance dose of their 911.

I keep a spare set of all filters on the shelf.

The fuel filters especially. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

let me ask a stupid question

are you in low range or high range when this happens?

If in high range could be just bogging down due to load etc....
