Boiled Green Peanuts!

I guess since I live in the peanut capital of the world. I should be an expert. We even have a peanut monument dedicated to the p-nut man who until his death sat in the same location for as long as I can remember selling boiled p-nuts

Love boiled peanuts! :licking::licking::licking:

Love 'em out of gas stations, from some guy selling on the side of the road, out of a can or my boiled by my MIL. :laughing::laughing::laughing:

One of our kids is the most finicky eater ever. Yet, said kid will eat can after can of boiled peanuts. :confused3::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan

Reviving this thread. Are raw green peanuts still available in Alabama? I'd like to get some so I can boil back home.

2LaneCruzer,

The link goes to "dry" raw, not green. Most all stores carry non roasted peanuts. Raw Green are fresh dug out of the ground and kept cold like produce. Kind of like a green bean vs. a dry white northern bean you use to make soup.

I stand corrected...my ignorance is appalling. I can't say that I was aware of that difference. I know my daughter, born and raised in Oklahoma, moved to Michigan after she got married...and she was frustrated because she couldn't buy raw peanuts for her holiday peanut brittle...not to mention that Okra was almost non-existent.

Finiky? I'm the exact opposite; usually like anything and everything, but cannot stand boiled peanuts. I used to buy 100 to 300 pounds of raw, shelled peanuts each year from the Lee County Peanut Company in Giddings, TX. Of course, a few were used in candy, and my parents both even liked to eat them raw. And while I preferred mine roasted with a little butter and salt added, I could eat them raw, but not boiled. I figure there's a good chance that I'm now Planters' best customer when it comes to roasted peanuts.:laughing:

I remember buying boiled peanuts from a guy on the side of the road between Atlanta and Athens. I thought they tasted like wet newspaper. Last year a colleague from MS brought some too the office. She thought they were great, I thought they taste like wet newspaper.

In high school the band had big annual sale of Prom Peanuts. They were bags of raw shell-less peanuts you put on a cookie sheet in the oven and roasted. Everyone in town bought them and we all loved them. Haven't seen anything like them for 30 years.

I tilled under a row of peanuts today. :(
When I planted them i was not on a diet.
A good batch will add 5 lbs from the salt!

Bird,

The first time I had them, I can't say I liked them much. Maybe I was expecting more of a roast peanut taste. But with family living down south, I came to appreciate them on visits. same with oysters and mud bugs/crayfish. I try to time business travel to hit peak seasons

I'd agree with the oysters and crawfish. My wife doesn't want either of those, but I had crawfish etoufee yesterday that I made myself.

Boiled peanut update;
Rural King has had 25 lb bags of "dried raw peanuts" for $29. I bit the bullet and gave a try at boiling them. They really boiled up well. I expected them to taste really different than boiled Raw green but, they tasted the same to me.

This is really good news for us mid westerners who always miss the green peanut season. Now I can have them any time I want, I have 22 lbs left....

I tried boiled peanuts on a trip through Georgia many years ago. I thought they tasted like wet newspapers. To each his own -- I like scrapple and don't expect everyone else to like it.
