Does anyone know where I can get a few bolt on chain hooks? Weld on would be ok too. I want to put a few hooks on my FEL.

Many other threads on this but AW Direct is a great group to work with. I recently purchased weldable hooks from them and I highly recommend them. The seem to be the consensus favorite.

I saw that they have different sized hooks. Is there any concensus as to which size works the best?

Depends on the size chain you have, but I like the 3/8 grab hooks. They will also hold 5/16 chain...I don't know if that is recommended, but it seems to work for me.

I have both 3/8 and 5/16 chains so using the 3/8 grab hooks made sense to me.

I got the same size hooks (from AWDirect) for the same reason. I figure if I need my 1/2" chain, I'll wrap it around my bucket. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If u need 1/2" chain u better get more than a CUT /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just got some tow hooks at TSC drilled holes and
bolted them on. Very handy See attached picture.

You make a good point. As I think about it, I might need 1/2" with my CUT, but only to pull it out of somewhere I wish I hadn't gone. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

k4hal,

I did that too and they are handy. Mine are bolted back further on the bucket on a large sheetmetal surface that is not as well supported as where yours is. Somewhere along the line, probably when picking up a large centered load, it put enough side force on those hooks to bend the sheetmetal they are mounted on. (~3/16 inch thick) I'd like to find some of those with a wider mounting surface.

I bolted on a pair of 1 foot long chain loops on either side of my bucket. I used half inch chain thru 12MM thru the mounting setup I assume was for pallet forks or some other bucket addon. My bucket came from the factory with a 12MM nut welded to the top of the bucket on each corner.

Try bolting/weld a piece of 2'x2"x1/4" hollow square tube the entire lenght of your bucket then bolt/weld hooks to that. You will be along time bending that and if you do I want to see a pic of what is left of the FEL. Good luck.

I just cut a piece of 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" X 3/8" angle the width of my bucket and put some slots in it to slip the chain in. I saw where someone else here had done it and it seemed a good way to go. I plan on welding it on in a couple of days. Any one know of a problem with going this route? It would seem like it would stiffen the bucket also.

It sure will stiffen the bucket and I see no problem in doing it that way. I bent the bucket on my JD (which was a 45HP tractor) so I went the square tube route. Bolted every 8" just to get the buckle out of it , then welded the grab hooks on. Put the whole rig out by the highway and it sold in 2 days.
