Kubota MX4700
I have a kubota mx4700 with la844 loader. It does not have quick attach bucket. I am looking at getting one of the hay spears that chain to the bucket. I am asking for feed back, will it work with round bales 1200lb will it damage my bucket will it be safe. I bet this has been a thread before but can't find it.

Thank

Things that attach to your bucket places the load out far from the pins on the bucket... That just increases the load to the cylinders and reduces the amount of curl & lift you have to work with.
Buy a skid steer adapter... You will then be able to place Any skid steer implement on your loader... Easier to find, generally can be found used and a Lot of manufacturers make that standard attachment.
Any thing you spend on pin on or bucket attach will just get you more invested in a system that is Not that user friendly...

I have been looking at loaders with the skid steer adapter and attachments. The hay spear implements from Kubota extend the load out from the pins by 15" for the implement and 8" for the adapter for a total of 23". This is just as far as it is extended from the pins when a bolt on spear is attached to the bottom of the bucket. So, as far as load goes I don't see an advantage to the quick attachment over a bolt on hay spear.

As far as damage to my bucket the jury is still out. I am looking to get one with the chain that will distribute some of the load to the top of the bucket. It also has a bottom support under the bucket that extends to the the back of bucket which will take load off the lip.

In my case I am 90% sure that a hay spear is all I will every need other than the bucket, so I don't think I will miss the quick attach.

I am still trying to decide so please reply

Lifting capacity is always something folks are looking to maximize. My bucket alone weighs 400 lbs

My Titan fork frame with spear weighs 120 #+23# = 143#. That's a 257# advantage.

If all you want is to move a bail, I'd go this route.
Three Point Hay Attachment / Gooseneck Tractor Trailer Hitch

I have one of these for the rear and a fork spear on front.

I looked at these but I need to be able to load and unload a flatbed trailer

I would add your bucket weight plus the bolt on spear then subtract from lift capacity and see what you have left.

Convienance and resale may not be of concern. SSQA add both plus add lift capacity per my illustration above. I can swap between my bucket and forks in less than a minute, literally. I never thought I would use forks as much as I do until I had them. My forks are on more than my bucket.

I welded a 21/2" tube on top of my buckets and reinforced them. That way I didn't bend the lip. I welded a 2" tube on the spear. One is on a 30 hp Shabaru. The other is on my backhoe. My new tractor I put it in the center of the pallet forks. I'm working on a combo trailer mover / hay spear for the 3 ph. That way I can carry 2 bales.

The la844 will handle the round bales with a spear on the front of the bucket. Bucket deformation/damage is all going to depend on how well you spread out the weight with your attachment method AND how aggressively you operate your loader.

Is it going to be a single tier on the flatbed? I do have a quick attach on my L5740 and use both pallet forks and the bale spear used jostle on my M135GX. The spear can't raise high enough for the second tier on our low slung bale wagon. I have to use the pallet forks so I can lift from the bottom, but it also requires a bale on my rear spear for counterweight. I think the MX4700 and L5740 have about the same frame size. Our bales are in the 1200 - 1500 pound size.

how often will you actually use FEL bail spear? during hay season and getting stuff off the field, and/or having bails delievered. after that 3pt hitch bail spear most likely work for moving bails from storage location, to livestock lot to feed the animals. the hassle of swapping out the general duty bucket on FEL for bail spear, once or twice a year that's not that bad of an issue. more so if you can drop bucket / bail spear on some nice concrete pad, or like. to keep everything up out of the mud / weeds.

if you have a concrete floor garage, 2x4's and 4 spinning wheels. to make a dolly to drop buck onto and/or bail spear onto. to easily push one of them around in garage for better storage / easier hooking up.

folks been going on with life with out quick attach for many years now.
