Front-End Loader Bolt on vs clamp on bucket teeth

Bolt on. Drilling through steel isn't rocket science nor is it difficult.

I have a bolt on Piranha Tooth Bar and so far that has worked really well for my brush clearing and getting through rocky soil. Wanted bolt on as I use clamp on forks which work better without a tooth bar on the bucket (small buck on SCUT).

Hi:

I'm looking for advice on bucket teeth. What do folk prefer? The style where you drill holes in the bucket to bolt on or the type that clamps-on that do not require drilling? I guess one advantage of the bolt on type is that you are less likely leave the teeth in the pile! I'm in Ontario, Canada and I can find both styles for sale relatively close by- HLA has bolt on and Canada Forks has the clamp-on type; actually Bucket Solutions products). I have a Kubota L3560 tractor and 805 FEL with 72 inch bucket (SSQA bucket). Any and all advice is appreciated.

Stay well.

I will presume you want a toothbar for more aggressive use than the plain edge of the bucket. I have a bolt-on that required drilling a 1/2" diameter hole in each end (vertical plate) of the 72" bucket. Two 1/2" holes, two 1/2"-13 bolts with 3/4" hex heads, washers, and 3/4" nylock nuts. The bolt head and lock nuts are relatively low profile, were installed with never-seize, and have been no problem. The photos on HLA website show vertical clamping bolts with what appear to be green plastic covers standing proud of the horizontal plate that connects the teeth. I would fear that boulders would likely bend the bolts. If you try to pry boulders with the teeth the underlying edge to bolt distance is far less than and therefore weaker than the longer lever arm on my toothbar.

I second the vote for a Piranha tooth bar. I installed one on my 57" bucket and it was super easy. And it is a beast. Agree that having an additional bucket would be nice but for me it's one more thing laying around. I just leave my tooth bar on year round.
