Boomer 3040 Tire Chains on Front

For me the tractor is worth it. I have more fun with it than I would a BMW. :)
Now a challenger, camaro, or Mustang GT 500 MIGHT be a different story. :D

I'm not sure where to get the extra cross links you would need but I used to buy repair links at Fleet Farm. You would have to stop and look at the assortment they have, or maybe Tractor Supply or somewhere like that. I don't think they would have to be an exact match just the right length. You may even want a little more aggressive ones.

All you need to install is a hammer and maybe a vice.

I got all the cross links I needed for free. I waited for a storm to pass and found them on the side of the freeway. Trucks lose lots of chains. I then will cut them to length with bolt cutters. I also have the large set of chain pliers to attach if needed. I did have to buy the repair links though.

There is an alternative to chains, and I almost went for it this year, but decided against it. Have no idea how well they work, but just to throw this out there in case you haven't seen it. Putting chains, especially ladder chains on the rear tires has to be a big job, and they are expensive.

These studs are supposed to be an alternative that you can install in fall and remove in the spring with a drill.

When I purchased the Boomer 3040 I told the dealer I needed tire chains for a sloped driveway that ices up a lot. He told me a lot of guys are just putting chains on the fronts with good success. That was fine by me since they are much easier to install. They gave me 4 link ladder chains for the fronts. At the time I was not educated on the different styles/types of chains and thought chains were chains and felt comfortable with the dealers advice. :ashamed:

I wish I had 2 links on the front for more grip and less bounce.

Yesterday as we worked the tractor on the driveway the snow packed hard and some ice has setup beneath. I thinking I need them on the back too. Would it be OK to install 2 link ladder chains on the rear or should I just get 4 link ladders to match the fronts ?

Below is a picture of my wife practicing her snow removal skills on a piece of flat road.

Hey nice tractor.

I have the same chains on the front and I put duo-grip on the back. They fall between the lugs and I need to modify them. I plan on putting links between the cross links to keep them in place.

I realize this is almost a year late, but it could help other people with the same prediciment...

As I have mentioned before, I build snow chains for a living. one of the simplest things, but will cost a bit too, that you can do is this:

On the one bare link in between each duogrip "H" pattern is, put a regular cross rail in. Make sure you make it 1 link wider than the duogrip pattern so that it fits properly... I believe most duo grips patterns are 3/8" (10 or 9.5mm) and the side chain is 5/16 (8 mm)

It won't keep the patterns slipping between the treads, but it will give you more chain to his the ground.... In some cases, it is almost better to put on a set "net" chains that go on graders if they come in your tire size.... you can get them in the same diamater as the duogrip
