Tractor
TC35D w/ SS
I wanted to share my sense of pride in this feat that my TC35D accomplished. Two weeks ago I had about 42 tons of crushed run gravel delivered.. I was revamping a steep tractor road that crosses a creek and leads to the other fields. After finishing.. I knew another 40 tons would finish the job.. so I set up another delivery. Saturday came.. and of course it was raining.. the driver arrived.. and asked where to dump. I pointed to the bottom of the road by the creek.. and said.. if you don't think you'd get stuck.. I wouldn't mind having it dumped down there. The truck driver looked at the steep sloped road I had covered last Sat. and thought he'd be okay. So he backed down the slope.. dumped the load.. and his troubles started when he couldn't get his dump bed to come back down.. the angle was too steep. He got about 20 feet up the slope before his tires started digging down.. tried a couple more times before he said.. you have a tractor? I said yes.. once I pulled the tractor around I could see the driver was sceptical. I said.. it's only 35hp but it'll pull a load.. if it doesn't work.. my neighbor has 100hp. I drove to the bottom.. picked up a load of gravel to help keep the front tires planted.. and pulled out my long logging chain. All hooked up.. we were ready to try.. I was in 4 wheel drive.. low-low.. powered up to 2700 rpms.. got the thumbs up.. and started pulling. My tires didn't even break traction pulling that tandom wheel dump truck up that steep slope. After we got to the top.. and unhooked.. the driver said.. I'm amazed w/ your little tractor.. I didn't think it would pull me up that hill. I showed him the stacks of big logs that I've pulled up the hill to the barn.. he looked and said wholly cow. I said yes it's small.. but it can pull a load. Maybe they should change the name to "Super" Boomer. I must've been blue w/ pride! I attached a picture so you could get an idea of the slope.. the road is just out of picture to the left.. the snow is gone too!

Mark.. Thankyou.. It's an old post & beam bankbarn.. when the weather's bad.. I'm usually hanging out there working on something.. I recently installed an "outdoor" high pressure sodium light on the inside to light the place up.. the roof peak is about 65' high.. takes a lot of lumens.. works good as a shop light. It's been so wet lately.. I have bearly gotten a chance to plant.. or even mow the grass. So I've been putting in fence posts and working on the driveway/farm roads. I'll have to take some new pictures for the spring and all the projects I've been working on.. diesal tank, farm wagon, barn doors, driveway gates, bought an old "Chicago AirMotor" water pumping windmill. You can see more barn pictures on my webpage.. Thanks Again!

Really nice place, Ken, and a nice website. And thanks for the explanation, because I was gonna suggest you step away from the stove /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now everyone will have to go see what that means.

Ken -- Really nice place! My wife and I live on 155 acres in northern Vermont, but only have about seven acres flat enough to plant anything (other than trees) on.

I love your old barn. Those old timers are works of art; it's nice to see one obviously cared for!

Pete.. Thankyou! When I bought the farm in 1999.. they had recently put a new roof on the barn.. a storm had blown it off. I love that barn too.. it's def. the biggest & most continous project I have. It's hard to see in the pictures.. but the barn has 4 doors on the upper level.. and 6 doors on the lower level.. and 17 windows. Keeping the weather out was the first step.. since then I've been working on new flooring for the upper level.. but have switched to the support structure on the bottom level. I've also been renovating the old log cabin house.. putting up fence.. landscaping.. and doing some farming.. so I switch between projects depending on how much time I have.. and how much $ I don't .. but I am thankful.. and I count my blessings every day. Thanks again! Ken

Kensfarm,

Nice place.

Your a brave man. I had a chance to do the same with a lime truck and took a pass. Called a tow truck instead. Granted my tractor is bigger but the lime truck was still full and weighed in at around 40,000 lbs. To much for any chains I have.

How heavy was the truck and what kind of chain did you use?

If that chain breaks somebody is going to get hurt.
