Sounds like it may have eaten a bearing on the input/pinion shaft. The bearing balls are probably locking the gears. Don't force it or drive it. You could break teeth off the gears. Take the pan off where it sits and fish out the balls with a magnet. Keep a pan under it--There's oil in there.

I'm a bit confused, the front tires turn in opposite directions when just one is rotated by hand.
When you turned the front driveshaft by hand did one of the tires rotate?
If you can turn the front driveshaft several turns with no front tires turning you have broken
something in the front axle/differential.

No, neither of the tires moved when I turn the input shaft. It just spins freely and nothing moves.

I believe that tinhack is absolutely correct. Tomorrow morning, I will drop the pan and also look at the way in which the input shaft mounts into the front differential. I'm sure once both of those 2 areas are investigated. I'll probably have my answer right away.

I want to thank everyone for their great advice and support. I will keep you posted as to what I find out. This is just the type of thing that sets this group apart from a lot of different media venues--good advice and input for newbies.

Even if someone decides to have the work done by the dealership, it's always good to know how to narrow down or somewhat know what the problem could be so that no one's ever taken advantage of. I'm not saying that New Holland dealerships would take advantage of me, I have not met any bad ones yet. However, in many different industries I've seen some pretty unscrupulous stuff going on and I hate to see anyone ever be taken advantage.

I'm afraid that you will not find it as easy as pulling a pan to check it out,
You will need to remove the entire axle from the tractor to split it and separate the halves.

I'm not sure if this will link to it for you, if it doesn't look you can find New Holland parts breakdowns and search for your Boomer.

Doing a hard turn to the stops in 4WD with the loader at max capacity can break things too...

Something I never, never do is cramp the front wheels if I have front wheel assist engaged, which is rare. I rarely use FWA.

Hi. I have a new to me 2017 Boomer47 which I bought used two years ago. It has had few problems to-date until today.

I was moving dirt in 4wd in first gear today when I stepped in 4 locked for a little more traction in the loose dirt. Had no problems getting my load of dirt with the extra power, so I backed up with my foot taken off the 4 lock. I backed up fine for 15ft, but when I moved forward the front two tires only moved 8 inches before they both locked up. Put it in reverse, and again, the tires only moved 8 inched before locking up.

I had tried everything from moving the 4wd lever in and out of position, stepping on the 4 wheel lock---nothing. There's been no noise prior, no leaking fluids, no indication of any warnings.

Anyone have any explanations with prior situations happening to them?
You might want to consult your owner's manual. Putting it in 4WD should be done by moving the lever. I am not that familiar with your model of NH but I think you are stepping on the differential lock pedal for the rear axle. If so, it should only be used for short moves in a straight line. You do not have to be in 4WD to use it. Turning while have the rear diff locked up can cause major damage.

And tearing into either gear box will be a major job.
