Re: boom pole

How about a chain from the drawbar to the "drag". Then you could "safely" pull the drag without fear of flipping the tractor, and still have the ability to lift it clear with the boom pole.

Re: boom pole

Rdam, here's a closer look. The chain from the boom pole is just for picking it up..................chim

Re: boom pole

Chim, that actually looks like a real nice use for your boompole. Thanks for sharing!

Re: boom pole

It's a real backsaver. I made the drag for our stone driveway back in '90 or '91 when the only tractor I had was an old Cub LoBoy (no FEL, no 3PH). Back then the only way to turn the thing around at the ends of travel was to unhook the two drag chains, drive the tractor to the other side of the drag, and flip the drag over.

My first welding project after getting the Ford 1210 (3PH, but still no FEL) was the boom pole. Life was good. I used it to pull a number of wooden fenceposts with a simple chain wrap around the posts. Some popped out easily and others were pretty stubborn. Had the front wheels off terra firma on the stubborn ones.......................chim

Re: boom pole

Pulling items from chains has caused a few injuries and damages; if the chain gets in a rear tire when you are turning (at a time when you are distracted with the turn), the implement can be in your tractor NEAR YOU before you know it.

To me it's much safer to have the implement fixed mounted to the 3PH.

Just my 2 cents......

Hi Ray,

Odd you should ask. Just last night I used my boom pole to lift a 1300 lb. weigh off a buddy's trailer. I have a 500 lb. front blade instead of a FEL, and I have eight 40 lb. suitcase weights I can hook over the blade if I need to. It lifted it right up and we moved it and set it down gently on the ground.

Another time, a bud who races a stock car had crashed it pretty badly, and I hooked on with the boom pole, lifted the front end, and slowly and carefully pulled it out of his garage and all the way to his back yard.. then backed it into position where he wanted it. Again, no problems. You just go slow, and keep an eye on things, and if anything starts to go wrong you stop.

The only problem I had with the 1300 lb weight was that I forgot to set the valve for how fast or slow the 3pt hitch lowers.. based on the weight of the implement. Let it down a little quickly for the first couple feet.. but of course then caught it with the rockbar lever, and slowly eased it down the rest of the way. I should have cranked that valve up before lifting something that heavy.

I love it and think it's a very handy gizmo to have in your collection!
