Yesterday, I needed to wack down a few weeds near the back door. So I pulled on my working boots without tying the laces. Sure enough within seconds of starting up the weed wacker the nylon string had entangled with the laces and the machine slammed into my shin. No blood but it really hurt..

Just goes to prove that when you're working with any kind of machinery you always have to pay attention.

Unless you've had something happen like this you don't realize how fast something can happen. I donated an inch of finger to a tablesaw once, my eyes never left the blade and I never saw my hand go near it. It was really amazing.

Safety first as we all know. Here's my contribution.... lace untied just to move the tractor a few feet across the yard. Upon dismounting, I stepped on the untied lace with the opposite foot, on the floor board of the tractor. Done deal. ....No blood but it really hurt...

Well, I tie the boots...in fact, since they're long enough to make a big loop, I double tie them (caught the loop on a lever too often).

Nothing to do with boot laces but the speed in which things happen...

Starting the chain saw one day holding it with one hand by the handle and pulling the cord with the other....saw was on a compression stroke and the pull of the rope swung the blade against my lower leg...luckly it didn't start because about two seconds after it hit my leg my pants were all full of blood from the one tooth that dug into my leg.

From then on the saw is on the ground any time I start it.

I was having dinner the other night with friends (stuntmen) and one regailed me with a story of him driving a large semi over a cliff. At the last moment, he was to bail out. Well, he forgot to put duct tape round his shoelaces. Got them caught on the shifter on his way out. He quickly scrambled back to the seat and slammed on the brakes, dumping only the nose into the ravine. They pulled him out. Reset the truck and he did it right the second time... I guess he changed his shorts as well....

i used to go through about a pair of laces a year....

now i LOVE my kevlar boot laces... wouldnt have anything else.

Several years ago we had a grain auger hooked up to a farmall m tractor, I was standing on the drawbar and of course the pto shield was missing when suddenly I felt a tug at my foot. My shoe lace had got caught in the turning pto shaft and luckily it was in bad shape and broke before it got my foot completely in the shaft. I have never owned a pair of lace up boots since. I will only wear slip on boots. I just feel safer with slip on's.

If I dont tie my laces I always put them inside the boot, then put my foot in, that way they arent loose to get caught in stuff.

I found that Rocky Boots have a few different Boots that are Lace up with a Zipper front, that you zip up after tying the boots. This completely hides all laces.

Even with properly laced/tied boots the loops of the knots can get caught on items making for a possibly injury .

This is tonight, 10 days after the stitches came out. Now I am in the market for a larger better table saw with fence that can be set way greater then +/- 12 inches like my cute little thumb eating Makita.

First relatively serious power tool injury. Happened too fast to even fully understand what happened. I thought I was careful but I am more so now!

I use to have touble with laces on my work boots also. To solve the lace problem I got some 2 inch wide Velcro tape and pop riveted it to my boots in two spots . Looks kind of strange but it works real good.
