I'm close to buying a new NH compact. Looking at the TC21d & TC25d. I do have a decision to make when I buy. Is there any advantage to buying a rear blade if you are buying a loader? I'm concerned because of snow removal, and leveling ground, and such. Thanks for replies in advance.

Whenever you use your FEL you will need back ballast. You could add a ballast box or such, but depending on the weight of the rear blade, it could be all you need. And you can do a lot more with a rear blade than you can with a ballast box.

Steelfan,

A rear blade is more convenient than a loader for plowing snow. The loader is handy for cutting back banks, etc. Having a rear blade and loader is a very popular setup for snow removal.

Sorry for being silly, but will the rear blade give me enough weight for the loader operation? Thanks for the replies!!!

The rear blade does work fine and don't think of only winter use for the blade, for you shall get your return $$ back before you know it.
I stop useing the rear blade for snow removeal..because of where I plow also had to keep turning my neck around to watch..I install a plow setup to my bucket and works great.
Good luck on your new purchase.

Having the rear blade on with the FEL does help me alot.

The only problem I have with having the blade on at the same time is when I'm digging into a high mount of dirt (and have to climb up it). The rear blade doesn't hang high enough, so it digs in.

If you're going to do alot of loader work, your best bet is probably loaded tires. They appear to add enough weight, can be filled with stuff to let you avoid flats, and leave the 3 pt free and clear. Only potential problem is the tire weight if you need to take them off (I need to remove them to get at the hydraulic filter).

I would agree snowman, I have a TC-18 & FEL, and my back blade is not heavy enough ! I'll have my snow blower on the back for the rest of the winter. But this spring....wheel weights or load the tires or have my wife sit on the draw bar !! dass

dass,

Not sure whereabouts you're from, but in some states your wife would have grounds to commit spousal homicide after that comment. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

snowman, I see I stepped on your toes when I came up with my username. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif
I am going to re-register with a different one.

As to the topic at hand, a rear blade is a lot better than nothing for ballast with the FEL.
