Looking for posts on the JD Subcompact 1025R and didn't see any. No problems from me but some others may have. Mine is running fine with only 30 hours on it so far.

Congrats.
How about some pics and what you are using it for on your ranch?

Looks like you are nearing the first service. I think the known issues are lack of ground clearance (common problem for all of the smallest subcompacts with small tires) and the infamous engine driveshaft universal joints. Make sure you can grease those regularly. Otherwise they are generally trouble free.

There are a lot of owners of that machine here on TBN. It gets talked about frequently. Hopefully some owners will chime in. I own it's Grandpa, 2210.

My engine driveshaft ujoints failed at 400hrs. I replaced them with easily greaseable joints and made access holes to simply that maintenance. I grease them around 50hrs.

Good luck with your machine. Post some pics. We love pics. :)

I would love to own one, but I see the John Deere 1025 listed for sale on the under 40hp tractors for sale on TractorHouse more than any other model by a huge margin. My guess is that they are the gateway tractor - low priced, easy financing and nice green and yellow paint. People see that they have plenty of horsepower, but for many, not enough traction and clearance for their needs. I am guessing that all these I see for sale nave been traded in for a larger model. That said, there's nothing wrong wit a SCUT. They are great at some things, not so great with others.

Not doubting your assessment at all. I wonder what the new sales numbers are for 1025s?

Here's why I think a lot of first time buyers like this. (From Deere's website)

Sadly. My closest neighbor fits that category......

IMO, everyone needs a place to start.. then after it is too small, much easier to move up.. and most of us do just that.
That likely is where the SCUT's for sale are coming from.. In the meantime, they beat a wheel barrow.. :)

Mine has a mid 60" quick attach mower and a quick attach front loader. The loader is self standing when removed, it has it's own self leveling stand attached. Both can be put on or taken off in less than 5 minutes and no tools are required. I have been clearing fallen trees from my walking paths on my 12 acres with the loader and then mowing about 3 acres of lawn type grass. (bought a tooth bar for the loader bucket to help moving the fallen trees) This winter the mower is stored in a garage and I have been grading the gravel driveway when it rains or snows with the 3 point hitch. Haven't had any ground clearance problems. Starts easy in cold weather too. It uses a little over a gallon of diesel per hour of running.
I also bought the John Deere I Match quick hitch so I don't have to get off the tractor to put Implements on or off. That hitch is really a time and work saver when changing those implements.
