Hi All,
I just purchased an older BCS from a farmer. He didn't have any manuals or anything. The only information I was able to find on the unit is
on the engine:
mod: ALN330WB
cm3: 327
cod: A11538

On the frame:
BCS 7554R
80660
DGM3782
MA OM

I tried contacting BCS. They sent me to http://www.bcsamerica.com/uploads/2014/03/Service-info-1-6.pdf but I think mine is older than anything they have listed there. I can't get any traction from there so I'm hoping someone here would have some insight.

Thanks in Advance

Hi! Your BCS look as a 735. I have one.Very good 5 front speeds and 2 reverses the reverse in high range is as number 3 on new BCS very good for mowing. I like the two ranges gear box. A lever on side of gear box must be front or rear no between. For me the 735 is the best because five front speeds. Good luck! Oldmech

Quick question I failed to ask the farmer when I purchased the tractor and I hoped reading the manual would shed light....but I can't tell if it takes gas or diesel. I'm not at all mechanically inclined so telling the difference between gas and diesel is kind of lost on me. I'm thinking it is diesel from the data plate.091.jpg
But it is in Italian and diesel could mean gas :)

Thanks,

The Acme engine you have is a gasoline model. These engines are likely one of the best engines produced in the last 75 years. They had one model that is this same engine tuned to run on Kerosene, started on gas then once warm it would run just fine on Kerosene. the AN290 is an 8 hp engine and the AN330 is a 10hp engine. Watch the oil level close, it may not use any but most of these engines failed because the oil was not checked regularly and when they get low, like any small engine, they will fail. Properly maintained these engines were expected to last 1800 hours before any major overhaul or work was needed. For most applications in America, that represents decades of service. Good luck, you purchased one of the best units made.

Oldmech shows his BCS as being a diesel, under his avatar. You could PM him to compare your BCS with his machine.
Or look for a spark plug, or two, a sure sign of a gas model. Diesels don't use spark plugs.

Thanks very much. I've been looking that these tractors since I got the homestead...and when it came up on craigslist for 500.00 I just jumped all over it. I was a little taken aback by the apparent age of the unit. It is definitely 'Old-School' which is fine, the last thing I wanted was some flash in the pan. I'm bringing her in to a buddy that works a lot with mechanical stuff to give her a good checkup....and a lesson or two for myself.

It's a nice find. You managed to buy it before the wife said I could buy it. Did you get the split hoof tiller with it too?

I had never heard of Westboro, google maps shows you 4h12m north of me.

Nice find on the 735. It's a good machine, best for rear mount work with teh 5 speeds. However, it only has 2 speeds in front mount, so suffers a bit for mowing large areas. The reason it lacks gears is there's no reverser in the 735. When mowing, you use the reverse gears for forward work.

The Acme Engine name plate states it is a diesel!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!

You have a high torque monster under the hood that needs good care.

Using a space heater to warm it up will make your like easier and your motor
will be quick to start and power up for you.

Hey Farmerboy Bill, can I send some soggy weather your way?? I have to much of it here.
