Yes, it is a Mott, I have the manual for the J60 "Hammerknife" and it matches exactly. Flailmaster.com has identified it from the pictures.
I would bet you can still buy the adapter stub shaft that slips on the male 540 and and the female 1000 RPM end of the propeller shaft.
IF worse comes to worse replacing it with a 540 gearbox and smaller driven pulleys to obtain the 1000 rpm rotor speed- does it have 4 rows of grass knives or is it a staggered weldment rotor where it looks like a sine wave on an ocilliscope while running?
no sense in parting with it if its in good condition I would locate a JD dealer and ask if the 540/1000 rpm stub shaft adapters are still available and or cruise a lot of farm tractor sales web pages.
