Rotary Cutter Bought myself a rotary cutter

I have a Rhino TW72 bought it used I am third owner

I have a slip clutch on the the drive shaft. It works great on large stuff up to about 4" or a little bigger. But when I cut tall thick grass, it cuts most of it, but leaves some of it a bit tall some after a single pass may be 12 to 16 " high it's usually a strip on the right side of the gear drive. Is this typical of this mower? I have a smaller lighter mower 48" which leaves a nicer cut. I was wondering if something is bent on the mower yoke or blades ? Or is this typical for this mower. Thanks for any help..........

Mine always left a windrow in really thick stuff, I just double cut it. I finally wore mine out, the deck is rusted out in more places than I want to repair. I bought a flail and couldn't be happier with it. It won't cut 5" trees but, the cut quality is far superior to the Rhino. I have a skid steer with a forestry mulcher for the nasty stuff now.

If it was just a windrow I wouldn't mind, Its more like it leaves the grass after the first pass about 8 to 12 high and if I back up and then pull forward it is cut to my satisfaction. I was just wondering if something was bent or does the TW72 just cut grass this way because its more for cutting Brush than grass? I have sharpened the blades and it's not helped much. But I love how it destroys the 3 to 5 inch branches of some big brush. I have a flail mower but don't want to mess it up by hitting a big chunk of a branch from the brush that may be hidden in the tall grass. I am hoping to get all the big stuff picked up so next year I can us my flail in the tall grass. The flail came with my tractor but I have not used the flail yet. My smaller 48 inch lite weigh mower does a way better job but I like using the 72 inch for more coverage. And the 48 inch mower needs some reinforcement on it exterior sheet metal as I live on the Coast and the salt air has taken its toll on it. It is good for lighter work I usually pull it with my smaller Kubota which doesn't have power steering, where my M5140 with power steering is a lot easier on my 75 year joints at the end of a long day of cutting.

It's normal to have "stick ups" and clumping after cutting tall heavy grass. If you're after a cleaner finish you'll probably just have to cut it again. I'm only cutting rough pastures with mine, so I'm not after a nice finish cut. There are other deck designs that are supposed to help with the clumping, but the typical cutter deck is going to do it.

I also think the batwing style decks are supposed to leave a better cut behind. At least the ones I've been looking at do.

Yeah, it's not a finish mower, it's for rough cutting. Mine never left a pretty cut but, it cut whatever I could drive over. Like I said, I just double cut if I wanted it to look nicer.

By windrow, I meant strips of taller grass.

Similar unit to my Bush Hog 286. I got my 286 for $800, but had to invest in a new PTO shaft and have the tail wheel bracket welded: put me close to $1,100. The deck was pretty much punched through and came with a thick steel plate welded on top of the deck (previous owner used it commercially, to MOW ROCKS!). There are almost NEVER any 6' RCs for sale in my area: I was fortunate to have run into the one I got. A comparable new unit will run somewhere in the neighborhood of $3,500.
