Bought the MF-124 baler today

What do you think the minimum PTO hp is needed to run a baler like this. my father in law has one and i was wondering if my 24 PTO hp tractor can run it.
i suppose it would take some power to get that flywheel spinnin.

I have seen a lot of 135 and 245 running them with the bales straight out. They do a good job.

Looks like you pickup a good baler. I have just seen one that looked better than that in the last 2 or three years. Most of the model 12s and the 124 around here are worn completely out. About two years ago, I went to a farm sale that was several miles out on a very rough dirt road and it was about a 100 degrees an real high humid. There wasn't many that showed up. The guy was selling a 124 baler that looked like it had a new paint job on it. I finely got around to looking it over and I couldn't believe that it was the original paint but it was. The paint wasn't even worn through in the bale chamber. The guys brother said that they baled a couple of fields and parted it in the barn. That was back in 1978. I never did find out the rest of the story. It went for the same price that you paid if I remember right. He had a really nice PTO rake with the two little crazy wheels that I missed bidding on because I was looking at something else that was for sale. I have kicked myself ever since.

You got yourself one fine baler. We have a MF 124 and she bales like no tomorrow. We use it on our 200 acre farm. The MF 124 puts out very tight straight bales. We use it to bale Alchia Bermuda and Argetine bahia.
