box blade and snowplowing

/ box blade and snowplowing #11
We use a box blade on a Kubota L2850 w/ FEL at work for moving snow in the winter. Actually, it never comes off the tractor year round, as it is one of the most used tractor implements we own (and we have several other tractors too, which helps)
I much prefer the box blade to the FEL. I can move much more snow much faster with the blade, be it pulling or pushing. To be honest, we use it to clean up after the plows have finished. So cleaning out the loading dock, or in confined areas, or removing snow banks from sidewalks, etc, it works great. To just back up to a pile, drop the blade, pull the pile to wherever I want to put it, then turn around and push the pile up and out of the way, is many times faster than moving the pile with the FEL (even if I was pushing it with the loader).
If you were worried about dragging and wrecking pavement, I might suggest lengthening the top link. This will roll the blade back and can prevent the front cutting edge from even coming in contact with the ground. We usually "set it and forget it" on ours, setting it so pushing is more aggressive than pulling, and use the lift hydraulics to control the blade.
