Box Blade for a NH TC29DA?

ive got a big landpride RB3572 rear blade (not a box) heavy duty sucker. Ive never had power problems (i always use low). Ive cut up to 2" of dirt off at a time with it. (good IL black dirt) Ive cut up to an 1" off the gravel driveway at time.

To the readership- I am a believer in the 5 HP/foot rule for box blades. Can a 3K pound+ 29 HP 4WD tractor with weighted R-1's pull a 6' 550 pound box blade through rocky, clay based topsoil? Jay

I don't think you'll have a problem.

Here's what I doing right now with my 21-hp B7510HST/LA302 FEL--cutting a walk path from the back porch to the observatory shed.

That's a KK 4'ft box blade (about 240 lb) with 360 lb of concrete weight added to cut through the sod. It's rained a little up here in the North Valley the past week so the top inch or so of soil is damp. I'm using the BB with full scarifier bite in soil that gets progressively more rocky as I move toward the house. No problem so far. Just cut the turf/soil with the BB to about 3 inches deep and scoop out with the FEL.

I'll put a layer of sand and road base gravel in the excavation and then pack it with my water-filled roller towed with the 18-hp lawn tractor.

I have a Simplicity Legacy. 27HP diesel with turf tires. I bought a 4ft box blade and used it to clean out about 1/4 acre of thick woods. I also removed most of my lawn and then spread 9 tandems of topsoil. Between the FEL and the box blade, it worked fine. Box weighs around 350 lbs. without any add-ons.

There is no question that you can bog down though. The depth of the shanks and the angle of the blade makes all the difference. Personally I would go for the smaller box, if this is the type of work you're looking at. It won't take much bogging down to get you frustrated. It also becomes more work to smooth out the pile you've made.
