Box Blade for JD 2210

Anyone used their JD 2210 with a box blade?

I am wondering how well it will handle a 5 foot box blade in a variety of situations. A 4 foot box blade sounds kind of small to me. My primary use for the box blade will be to work my 500 foot long gravel driveway although I need to move a little dirt around to change the grade near my garage so rainwater will channel away from the garage instead of toward it.

Also, I noticed in the Frontier Equipment section of the John Deere web site, there is a 4 foot box blade, model BB1048L, that is specifically meant for a limited category 1 hitch. The hitch on the 2210 is a limited category 1. Does the 2210 really need the BB1048L model box blade or are some of you finding that other standard category 1 box blades work?

I know the 2210 hasn't been around for very long but hopefully there are some of you out there who have run yours with a box blade and can share your experiences.

Land Pride makes a 54" box scraper, BB1554. I don't know of any other companies that make one of that size.

Thanks Craig. This 54 inch box blade sounds like a good compromise between the 60 inch and 48 inch sizes. It would matchup more closely with the 53 inch FEL bucket I am interested in for the JD 2210 I have on order. Hopefully the limited category 1 hitch on the JD 2210 won't be a factor in reducing the number box blades available for use on the tractor.

I am still curious about whether anyone is using a 60 inch box blade with their JD 2210 and if the limited category 1 is a concern or factor in choosing a box blade.

Sorry I can't answer your specific question about the 2210 and a 5 foot boxblade. I have a 4010 and purchased a 5ft Landpride. Your machine is less than 100 lbs lighter than mine so the machine can pull a 5 footer, but I'm just not sure about the limited 3 pt. I read the previous post about the 54 inch boxblade. I can tell you that from a quality standpoint, I've been very happy with Landpride.

I stopped in at my JD dealer this morning to get a price on the Land Pride 54" box blade.

He quoted me $550 and said the 48" was around $30 less.

I am still waiting for my JD 2210 to arrive. The dealer says JD doesn't have the ag tires from Titan to put on the tractor. My order for the tractor was placed November 30.

There is a similar thread under Attahements I think a week or so ago. I would not get bigger than a 48 inch medium weight boxblade for your 2210. You will find a 54 or 60 inch to big except under the best conditions. I am pretty sure a 5 foot box full of clay soil or gravel will likely bring your 2210 to a complete stop. This is not saying any thing bad about the 2210. It just lacks the power as does any small tractor to pull those huge generic blades at the farm stores. Now a five foot rear blade--yes--boxblade no. There are times when my BX really struggles with a 48 inch boxblade and actually the same with the B2410. I could use a slightly heavier box sometimes on the 2410 but I am happy with the 48 inch, I think you would be too in the long run happier. Good luck. J

I agree with Tres Crows. I have a Landpride 54" blade for my 4100. It is a good fit for a 4100, but I would not want anything larger. For a 2210, I would not go larger than 48". You not only need a boxblade to drag gravel and loose dirt around, you need it for muscle jobs like ripping hard ground, ect... I think the 2210 would drag loose material around just fine, but when it comes to using the rippers to cut and dig, I think that the box would be too much to handle. Go with the 48". An old rule of thumb for box blade buying is 5 HP per 1 foot of blade width. Another old rule is to only buy a blade a little wider than your wheelbase. I'm guessing that the 48" blade would fit this rule perfectly.

The outside measurement from rear tire to rear tire is 47.5 so a 48 inch box blade works out to be just 1/2 inch wider.

In using the rule of 5 HP per foot of blade do you use engine gross HP or PTO HP in the calculation?

For the JC 2210 gross HP is 23 and PTO HP is 17.7. Using each of this values and the formula I come up with 55 inches and 40 and 1/2 inches inches respectively after converting from feet to inches.

It looks like it goes back to what sort of material I will be moving with the box blade.

I would go with a bade that is a little wider than the outside diameter of the rear wheels, thats for grading and not leaving wheel marks. I think your machine would pull a 50" or maybe a 54, just don't take a big bite when grading. I have a JD 4100 with a 5' box and have no trouble with it

Does anyone know who makes one this size? At 50 inches that would make the box blade stick out a little over an inch past the outside of each rear tire on a JD 2210.
