Does anybody know what model (if there is one) that the JD/Frontier box blade is with hyd scarifier in around 6' wide?

Don't know about the 6' but I have the 7' and it is a Frontier BB1284 with hyd scarifier.

Thanks!!!! Is it worth the extra money in time savings not having to change the scarifier depth manually?

Let's see, a lever within arms reach, or get off the tractor and change 6 or 7 pins, hummmmm. Let's think about this one for about a second or two. If you can afford it, then get it, hydraulic is the only way to go.

I will second that.

It is one of several reasons I chose my boxblade, certainly is convienient. All of the hydraulic tooth bar models are very well built with a large cubic ft. capacity, hinged rear blade and high weight to cut through hard ground.

I guess it comes down to how much time you have on your hands, and how much is your time worth to you. Some day I hope to have lots of time on my hands. Retirement.

But even when you have a lot of time, better to not use it moving rippers up and down.

Brands/models and ballpark pricing would be very valuable to me. This is something I definitely would like to outfit my new tractor with. But I need to know whether I can afford it....

The other thing I have to consider is that my new rig is coming with 1 remote hyd on the rear. (All I can afford for now) So do I use it for scarifier or a hyd top link? Trying to make best use of tools available here. Experience is the best teacher and I have none with a box blade.

These boxblades aren't cheap, so look for a good price on a lesser model. I would definately consider a good used one too. The boxblades with hyd teeth are way pricy and heavy duty, may be a lot more than you need and or want to spend.

My "weekend warrior" status puts the grown man box blade that jenkinsph has in the "hard to justify for me" class, so I got the Deere BB3272 for $1600. It weights 800#s, 21 cu. ft capacity, and is heavy duty enough for my JD 4520 60 HP tractor. I'm working on a Top and Tilt (TnT) which will make it even more useful. Yes, I have to get out of the cab to take up the scarifiers but so far I'm happy with that trade off. I'd love the bigger box with hydraulics, this works for my use and the "soil" in my area (red clay)

The biggest question in that case would be how often are you going to use the box? If it is only going to be used around the yard once in a while it might not be worth the extra money. I have a landpride HR3572 with the hydraulic rippers that I use in my business. I take that box on just about every job that I do and can count on one hand how many time a year I need to use the rippers. I think in part that is because, as someone mentioned above, the better boxes with the hydraulic rippers are built much heaver and that makes them cut through hard soil better. I am not sure if you priced these boxes yet but they can run really close to $4000 dollars new. You might be better off spending the money on a couple more remotes for your tractor, installing a TNT kit and purchase a cheaper manual type box.

I think I just saved myself a lot of money by asking all of you my questions. I don't need anything all that heavy duty for occasional use and could put the money saved towards something else. Thanks much!!! Very valuable info here.
