BX 2200
I recently went shopping for a boxblade for my BX 2200. I did quite a bit of comparing and looked at 4ft models made by Woods, LandPride, Rankin, and the KingKutter XB, so I thought I would share my findings for anyone else out there looking to buy one. The first three were priced around $550-600 and the latter was $420. Construction wise I would say they were all about equal and all used identical cutting edges. The Woods looked like it had the nicest fit and finish. The differences though seemed to be in the scarifier teeth and most importantly the depth that they would extend below the cutting edges of the blade. This is where the Woods seemed to have a serious design flaw, at the lowest setting the teeth were basically flush with the cutting edges which would really limit their effectiveness. The Rankin and Landpride were better but only about 2" of ground penatration, still not much. The Kingkutter was the best in this area with about 4" at the lowest position. Another concideration for me was departure angle or how much ground clearance I would have with the blade in it's raised position. This seemed to have a direct coralation to the depth of the box which on all but the Kingkutter XB was roughly the same, the Kingkutter's shallower box gave it a big advantage over the others and I didn't think this would be too much of an issue with material capacity. So after weighing all the factors I went with the Kingkutter unit, it may not have been the prettiest but the paint color was actually a good match to boot. The only minor downside I could see with this unit was it weighed a little less than the others but after trying it out this was quickly forgotten. I am quite impressed with it's digging ability on hard packed soil over the 5ft rear blade I had before. And it is really nice to be able to grade in both directions without turning the blade. Now if only the scarifier teeth could have been hydralically retractable /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
