Mornin Dave,
Thanks for the link on the Tuffline ! That does look like a good blade. I actually did get a price on a 6ft Tuffline last year, for $895 I believe. Im still in the market, but I just bought a small Toro ZTR to mow around the house so Im kinda broke at the present time ! ;)

BTW you dug up a fairly old post there and I just kinda stumbled on it this mornin ! :)

Anyone have a suggestion as to what size/brand blade for a 7500HST in somewhat clay-ish soil?

48" is as big as I would go on that tractor. I had a B7500 and had to fill the rears so it would pull it good and not just spin the tires.

I totally agree. Clay soil is what I have, I've got a heavier tractor with more power and I've had problems pulling a 48" blade when I get a little too agressive. In fact, I would strongly suggest a light duty 48" box blade with 3 scarifier teeth instead of 4 teeth. Frontier, Worksaver and a few other companies make blades like that.

Here are a couple photos of light & standard duty 48" box blades.
  • Pictures 1, 2, 3 = Yellow box blade = Worksaver Brand (light duty)
  • Pictures 4 & 5 = Green box blade = Frontier Brand (light duty)
  • Pictures 6, 7 & 8 = Blue box blade = Midwest Brand (standard duty)
The Midwest blade shown is their "20" series standard duty, but they also make a "15" series light duty blade. Midwest makes blades in many colors so you can match your tractor color if you wish.

My dealer sells the Buhler brand stuff. A 48" goes for about 700 and the 60 for around 730.

Considerbly more than the KK stuff in the US, but I imagine you get what you pay for.

Any good/bad/ugly on the Buhler stuff?

Your dealer is charging a heck of a lot for a 48" Buhler! They are pretty nice box blades, but not that nice (unless prices have really skyrocketed because my dealer had a 48" Buhler for under $600)

Buhler blades are discussed on page 1 of this thread.

Here is a BUHLER box blade. This is a nice heavy blade. Side plates are rectangles with cut leading corners; I prefer trapazoid sides, but only a few brands offer that. The scarifiers are held between 2 pieces of flat steel instead of in a square tube. Scarifier adjustments are easy to do without tools with gloves. One nice thing is that the lower link pins are the captured type and the reinforcement goes all the way to the back of the blade. This is a well made blade and was priced lower than some of the other brands. The A frame assembly was VERY heavy steel. The back plate was a flat plate instead of a curved blade like some of the other brands. Overall I'd say Buhler is a "mid grade" model, better than many, not quite as nice as some others, but priced below many, so it is a very good value (at least in my area). I own one of their snowblowers, its a very nice blower, and was almost $1000 less than a PUMA. Not as heavy as a PUMA, but I don't get enough snow to justify spending over $2000 for a 60" blower (I paid $1400 for my Buhler snowblower).

I should have mentioned, I'm in Canada. If you know where I can get one in Manitoba for under or around $600, I'm all ears :)

What we really need are some more current photos. This thread has been running for some time and there may have been modifications and changes to some of the brands since it started.

Oh, you use that up-north "play" money! ;) That explains some of the price difference.

Bush Hog ® Commercial Turf

Here is a BushHog MBX60 / MBX600 box blade. If you get the MBX72 or MBX84, you can get the color to match your tractor. I paid $650 for it and it weighs 580 pounds. Things I noticed over the SBX series is weight, a hinged rear gate (pix#4), cat 1 and cat 2 hookup, extra plate welded on cutting edge (pix#2), and a triangle welded at top between cutting edge and back plate (pix#2), and generally more metal.

The scarifiers are held in place by the $5 pins which are used to hold a hitch on a truck. Easy enough to take off with gloves and a small set of needle nose pliers. The center scarifier cannot be placed upside down. There are 3 height adjustment for each of the 5 scarifiers.
