Sorry if it`s been covered before but I just installed my 48 in BB and 3PT hitch on my BX24, and am wondering if it should have some sway to i,t or should it not move?

The "check chains" as Kubota calls them , that attach to the lower links , look as though they can be adjusted to stop the box blade from moving left and right when lifted ,but don`t seem to easily move so I`m guessing they are suppose to have some play so the box blade follows the tractor , but I`m not sure.

The directions say nothing about it...

Good question. Would love to know the answer myself as I leave mine with a little slack, but don't know if I should be.

I keep mine tight, there less chance of bending a lift arm with them tight. The owners manual tells you how much play to have in them for different implements.

I went to look up the page # in the owners manual and I told you wrong it is the L4240 that has that in the manual. It said for grading implements to have them tight. For a plow or disk you want it loose. I have a PDF copy of the manual somewhere, I think it is on another computer. If I find it I will post that page.

Personally I leave mine with a little play. I like the box to be able to move a couple of inches if I get to close to a tree or whatever. Seems to me if tight all the stress would go to the lift arms on the tractor. I am sure I might have a different opinion if I was only grading open areas with good soil though.

OK I guess I`ll tighten them up a bit tomorrow as they seem too loose to me.

Thanks again.

I keep mine just slightly loose so it can easily slide around immoveable objects.

I run mine tight but most of my work is grading roads, no problems yet.

I leave a little play in all my implements. I hate the chain/turnbuckle on our BX's and am replacing them with ones with pins similar to my other tractors.

THis is from the BX2660 manual:

To bad they don't define tight and loose. Those are pretty subjective terms.
I have the teliscoping checks with pins. There are holes or slots to put the pins in for either tight or loose checks. When I use the holes for a tight check there is still an inch or more of side to side play. When I use the slots for a loose check there is probably what seems like 6 inches of play although I never measured it. But it is really loose.
I just assume that is about right as I don't have any choice.
Hope this helps,

I keep mine tight, thinking of the geometry, any movement left or right will translate to a small up and down rocking at the ends of the blade.

Look under the "Remarks" column in the pic. They said 2.0 - 2.4 in. for the loose setting. I personally run most of my implements with about 2 inches or so of slack,as I have lots of trees to move around. The big exception is I like everything tight when using the rear mounted snow blower. Backing up with precision is much easier for me with less play.

I think you are only supposed to use one of the slotted holes.

Your right. I totally missed that :ashamed:
I was just reading down thru this thread to see how people who had the ability to adjust the slop did it to compare since I have to live with what I got.

94Bullitt, I have never used the slotted holes as I have no ag equipment but it is good to know that if I do I should only use one. Thanks.

Something that I don't understand about check chains in general:
The attachment point of the check chain or whatever is usually not in line with the front pivot on the lift arms. This means that the chains will get tighter or looser when the implement is raised. Sometimes the attachment point is lower than the front pivot which will cause the chains to tighten when the implement is lifted. If they are already tight when the implement is in lowered position--will they prevent the implement from raising all the way up? If they are a little loose when the implement is lowered--will they tighten when the implement is raised to prevent side sway when turning the tractor?
