Mahindra 4500 4WD w/FEL, and Scotts S2048 lawn tractor
My box blade served me well for many years when pulled behind my 1958 24 HP, 2WD, Ford 2000. However, the first time I put it to work behind my new, 42 HP, 4WD, Mahindra 4200 it was a different story. I was cutting a drainage ditch along my road when I hooked a faily large rock with a couple of the scarifiers. Now the old Ford would have would have come to a stop and stalled out, if I didn't engage the clutch fast enough, not so with the Mahindra. Pic 1 shows the results. The Mahindra didn't give any indication that it was hooked onto an immovable object. I imagine more damage would have resulted had I not seen the front wheels starting to spin in the muddy soil.

Pic 2 shows the fixes made to the box blade. Rather than a frame to hold the scarifiers, I used a 72 inch piece of 1/4 inch wall 4 x 4 inch square pipe. Two scarifiers had to be replaced.

Pic 3 shows the completed job.

The $100+ for materials was more cost effective than the $500 for a new BB.

By the way, if anyone noticed that there were no closeup photos of my welds, well that's because my welding skills still require a lot more practice.

Looks great on the rebuild. You got lucky that the BB gave way. I hooked a rock with my 6.5' KK BB and ripped the lower 7/8" lift arm pin right off under the left axle of my 36 hp cub cadet (mitsubishi) this spring. The BB never gave a bit. The steel in this BB is between 5/16" and 3/8" thick.

Now that you have beefed it up a bit watch out for the lift arms as they may be the weak point.

Hmm.. 1958-1962 was the '01' hundred series for ford.. IE.. 601/801. A 2000 would have been a 601 equivalent.. and had a 134 ci engine, 4 cyl ( diesel was 144ci ).. In the early 60's the industrial 2000 came out.. then in 1963, the regular 2000 came out.. was pretty much just an updated 4 cyl 601. in 65 the 3 cyl 2000 would have come out. the 3cyl came in gas or diesel and was 158 ci.

Figure 36 eng hp, 31 pto hp, 28 db hp.

I'm not sure what you have, listening to the year / hp ranges.. but ford didn't have any 24 hp machines out in the late 40's. Closest thing to that would have been a 9n/2n from 39-47 with the low 6.0:1 comp head.. however.. it still managed a brisk 23 pto hp.. compaired tot he 8n's 27 pto hp due tot he 6.5:1 comp ratio head.. etc.

So what tractor did ya have?.. just curious?

9n 39-41
2n 42-47
8n 48-52
NAA 53-54
00 55-57
01 58-62
000 industrial 60+
000 4 cyl 63-64
000 3 cyl 65-75 ( 3cyl up to 4000)
X600 76-80

Soundguy, you may be just the guy I'm looking for. This was a picture of the Ford when I bought it. I haven't been too successful in digging up information on her. The fellow I bought it from told me it was a '58 and he had a decal on the side of the engine cowl that reads Ford 2000.

Tell me what you can about it. It is a gas 4 cylinder. I would appreciate it. By the way I still have her, the tractor that is, and the pretty lady on it as well.

I put it back to work 20 minutes after the last picture was taken. It did just fine. Will send you a new pic as soon as it stops raining and I can get out there with a camera.:)

The sheetmetal is pointing toward 63/64 2000

Post the numbers and codes stamped ( not cast ) into the bellhousing flat on the left side, right where the starter mates up. there will be 2 tapped holes int he side facing of the boss i am talking about.. there should be a model iD number and sn, and date code..

The probelm with dating by sheet metal is that so many things can be changed around. The 134ci engine was used all the way back from late 52 thru 63 for instance... IE.. you could dress a 1953 NAA up in the wrong sheet metal and take a pic and make it hard to id it.. without seeing key aeas like rear axle hubs, and tranny bellhousing, and dash.. etc.. heck.. might have had a 172 or 192ci eng swapped in, and have a but load more hp.. more like my 840.. and be similar to an early 4000 .. etc. Post them numbers..

I get home at 11:30pm tonight.. when I do, I'll plug those numbers into my manual and see what ya got.

I have the post 65 thousand series memorized.. but not the 63/64 4 cyls thousand series.. or the early industrials.

The 63/64 2000/4000 and early industrials are kinda the red head step children.. as they weren't much more than updated 601/801 tractors.. ..with some exceptions onthe industrials that may have had different front axle setups.. etc..
