My box blade served me well for many years when pulled behind my 1958 24 HP, 2WD, Ford 2000. However, the first time I put it to work behind my new, 42 HP, 4WD, Mahindra 4200 it was a different story. I was cutting a drainage ditch along my road when I hooked a faily large rock with a couple of the scarifiers. Now the old Ford would have would have come to a stop and stalled out, if I didn't engage the clutch fast enough, not so with the Mahindra. Pic 1 shows the results. The Mahindra didn't give any indication that it was hooked onto an immovable object. I imagine more damage would have resulted had I not seen the front wheels starting to spin in the muddy soil.
Pic 2 shows the fixes made to the box blade. Rather than a frame to hold the scarifiers, I used a 72 inch piece of 1/4 inch wall 4 x 4 inch square pipe. Two scarifiers had to be replaced.
Pic 3 shows the completed job.
The $100+ for materials was more cost effective than the $500 for a new BB.
By the way, if anyone noticed that there were no closeup photos of my welds, well that's because my welding skills still require a lot more practice.
