Box blade repair and brands ??

At some point I'm going to need to either cut in two replacement plates into the Tuff Line commercial box scraper or blow through a carton of welding rods building the leading edges back up.

I doubt you need to be in a hurry, didn't you buy yours last year?

There was a time when I couldn't figure out how operators could possibly wear the side plates off a BB. Then I watched a commercial user one day cutting sidewalk grade with a BB on a 50-ish HP tractor with TnT. After a few minutes I understood. If moving material he extended the top link and filled the BB. Then when he wanted to unload he shortened the top link letting the BB ride on the side plates and lifting the blade slightly off the grade, letting material filter underneath. It appeared to be a very effective and controllable way of doing business. Much better than trying to control the unload with the 3pt. Negative is the wear is puts on the side plates which are not designed for that. Eric's idea of building up the bottom edge with a hardening weld bead might add life if an operator chooses to use the BB in this manner.

Just to update this thread, I did manage to get my box blade back into shape. I drew up some cad files to match the profile of the sides, and also a 1 1/2" wide rectangle with 3/4" half holes Long the long side. I beveled both sides and welded them in.
It took about 4 hours total, including drawing, removing rust between the moldboard and mounting plate, and getting it back off the table.
Funny part was that I took it off the table with my forklift and set it in the dirt just outside the shop, which is up a slight incline. It took several tries and a running start to get close enough with the tractor to hook it up.

Good job on getting it back in shape. :thumbsup:

Build a dolly for it and it will be easy to hook up.
