Box blade rippers

Does anyone know where I can find replacement box blade rippers with the notch in the back? I found some with center holes, but can't find any that are back notched. I've got 3 on mine that are bent pretty bad - from ripping stumps out
Also, how do I tell what quality they are? I'm not too familiar with types of steel, but I'd rather something more flexible than brittle. Someone here on tbn a few weeks ago was having problems with the rippers breaking. I don't want that - I'd much rather they bend. The ones I've got will take brutal treatment without damage and I want replacements like them.

Thanks. That's a good price too. Problem is, those are front notched and I need rear notched Like on this box blade pic I just found.

Then again, maybe front notched would work - I could just drop the pin in the back instead of the front.

Any thoughts?

"Good" ripper shanks like what you would get with a Gannon run a little over $60 each with the tooth being another charge on top of that. Most people settle for less, including me.

Yeah, I'd much rather bend or even break a shank over tearing up my BB.

Have you ever thought about straightening them, unless they are bent to bad. I bent 3 of them and straightened them out using my log-splitter and they turned out pretty well. It only took a few minutes.

Yes, that was my first thought when I bent one. I like the log splitter idea, but unfortunately don't have one. I put the ripper in a vise and got a large pipe wrench and cheater bar. I heated it almost to the melting point and had someone else hold the heat on it while I applied pressure, but only succeeded in breaking my vise Called Wilton Vise and they said "Sorry, the lifetime warranty does not apply to movable parts." Hmm... thanks a lot. The vise is cast, so I welded it with nickel rod - worked great till I put some more heavy pressure and it broke again. It has since broken two more times - I think it's time for a new vice.

So, I guess that's the long answer to why I want some new rippers

I have Ridgid pipe vises and Wilton machinist vises for many years without ever being able to break one. I have had a couple of cheap ones that are good door stops but not much good under real world use.

Aha! I did some more searching and found rear-notched rippers here. They are slightly different, but looks like they will work fine.

Seems to be rather unusual to have rear notched rippers. Has anyone with a rear notch bb tried just using front notched and putting the drop pin behind instead of in front of the ripper? Seems to me it would work.

I have the rear notched rippers on my Howse BB. You can buy them from Howse (L7): BOX BLADE : Howse Implement Company, Your source for tractor and farm equipment parts and supplies

I'm not sure about using the front notched rippers.

Great source there. Looks similar to my bb. Seems I can't find replacement parts for my off-brand (sunburst) bb, but might be able to use the Howse parts if I need something. Most of the time I just weld/make parts when I need one, but occasionally it's necessary to order new. Thanks again.
