I worked fine for me at my parents house, the disc I had would not dig in enough in as short a pass as I had to make. So I used the BB it did a decent job

I want to start a garden and all I have is a box blade. I was thinking about using my scarifiers set really low to tear up the ground and then to smooth it out with the blade. This will be a really SMALL garden of maybe 50'x50'. Think it will work? The dirt is pretty soft with no rocks. It's dirt that was spread out when my pond was dug this last October.

I don't have other attachments other than a RC and PHD and I don't want to buy something for such a small area.

Thanks...

Box blade is the wrong tool for your job. Plunk down $140 and get a King Kutter middle buster/subsoiler combo and get the job done the easy way. You'll have other uses for this implement for sure.

I have a veg garden about your size. Took about 30 minutes to break up the first 6" of soil with the middle buster plow and my 21-hp Kubota B7510HST.

Of course, you need to rototill the garden after plowing no matter how you initially bust up the soil (unless your planting in sand). I have a walk-behind tiller from Home Depot and a pre-owned Yanmar RS-1200 rototiller (4-ft wide) to use with the 7510.

Right now I'm installing lawn landscaping around my new house. I used the middle buster about 10 days ago to break up the ground prior to rototilling with the RS-1200 next month and planting the grass (see photo).

You don't need draft control to limit the depth of an implement..
Sorry Rad, but experience trumps opinion in this case. I have draft control on both tractors, and use it regularly with both BB and rake. When they start to dig too aggressively, or catch on a root/slab/cable/whatever, draft control absolutely positively pulls both implements back up to the preset working depth - untouched by human hands. If you know what you're doing when you set the draft control lever, no turning around in the tractor seat is required either

Yes, with experience an operator can control a BB from the operator seat. Unfortunately that usually means spending more time looking at the BB than where the tractor is going. The point you apparently missed is that - IF the tractor has draft control (and the operator knows how to use it) - then training wheels on a boxblade aren't necessary.

Joerocker,

Use your box blade and dig your garden. It will all work out in the end. When you're eating your corn on the cob or whatever, you can say You did it.. Maybe you don't have draft control, a seed drill or a manure spreader but the feeling of accomplishment will still be there when you're chomping down on your crop. Nobodys perfect at operating equipment and it is the fun of doing it as a hobby. If it was your bread and butter it would be a different story. Enjoy your endeavor!!!! Have fun with it...

You don't need position control to use your box blade and niether do the 4 million people that don't have that feature on their tractor. Go ahead and use the box blade and it will work great. If your interested, for more some more intelligent information on the difference between quarter inch valves, position control and load sensing draft control please go to:
