Box Blade - too big?

I believe my tractor weighs closer to 2800 with the FEL on it, and probably around 3300 when the boxblade is on. It is very light. I pick up the BB in about an hour, I will post how the day went later tonight.

I am curious what RPM do you run with when blading. I planed on 1500 RPM in low, with 4 wheel on.

Yea, some of the other tractors in the 30 hp range can weigh that not counting the FEL. Add the FEL and the blade and load the tires and they can weigh close to 5k.

You'll just have to find out. The method that sawduster is refering to is kinda what I was suggesting with a middlebuster/subsooiler. If you are getting the BB and find out it is too much, you can try his method and shorten the toplink and just let the teeth rip and then try the FEL.

1500 RP in low should be ok. You dont have to run wide open but you want enoiugh rpm's to have the HP you need and not lug the tactor down too much.

Good luck, post lots of pics, and let us know.

Thanks for your help so far guys. I don't have any pics yet as it is not finished. It was WAY more than 4 inches. 4 inches was the low side, it was more like 20 inches on the high side. We worked on it for about 5 hours. We are close to finished and we have an unbelievable pile of dirt. We also had a couple problems neither of them tractor related.

First as I am sure you are all wondering. 72 inch BB worked flawlessly for the most part. I was able to fill the box all the way and drag it around. No real problem with power or stalling, I even broke a tooth off. Ran 1500 RPM most the day in low 4-wheel

The first problem we had was the site where they building is going used to have an old maple tree, a big old maple tree. We keep hitting huge roots, I was taking it slow so I wouldn't break anymore teeth or twist the 3pt. We actually worked for 7 hours but because of the root removal the tractor itself only logged 5 hours and that includes some chain work pulling the roots out.

The second problem we had is once we got about 6 inches deep the clay was wet, and stuck to everything. The biggest issue with this is it would stick between the inside blade and back blade on the bottom of the box and make like a dirt skid taller than the blades keeping the blades from touching the ground, thus no cutting.

Anyhow we are done for today and going to let the last bit to remove dry out some then scrape the last 1-2 inches tomorrow. I will take pictures then. Again thank you all for your advice and assistance so far.

We finished. Looks good too, the hole slab of virgin clay is level to an 1/8 of an inch. The box blade worked perfectly.

I think I am gonna keep it.

Pictures as promised. To put the pile of dirt in perspective, I am 6' 4" and standing on top of it.

CountyLine Middle Buster - 2128228 | Tractor Supply Company

CountyLine Sub Soiler - 2128333 | Tractor Supply Company

The second one (subsoiler) would probabalt do you the most good.

I made one when I installed my invisible dog fence. Cost me nothing cause I had all the scrap steel to make. If you are handy with a welder, have a decient shop and some scrap steel, it only took me a few hrs to make.

2x4 heavywall tube for the main beams and 1/2" x 3" plate sharpened one edge, and welded on for the angle. (I actually made it portrude through the 2x4 allthough I dont think it was needed.)
looks nice!
