Is a 6 foot box blade too much for my 4300, or should I go with a 5 foot?

I have a 5' on my 4300 and it works fine, but it would be nice to have the extra width past the tires for some of the work I do with it. I'd go with a 6' if I were to do it again.

My little 755 handles a 5' box blade pretty well. I'd be awful surprised if the 4300 couldn't handle a 6'.

Thanks for the input. My dealer said he would let me try a Frontier 6' to see if it worked okay. Does anyone have any experience with Frontier products? Are they well made?

Frontier products are manufactured by Woods - with that in mind you can check out their Website for additional information.

Woods manufactures quality implements. I have a RB50 rear blade and a 48" light duty rotary cutter. I have no complaints about either.

I have a 4300 HST and use a 6' King Kutter box blade. It works just fine. I have forgotten to set the tilt correctly and tried to bury it in my drive before the tractor slowed.
I think the horsepower issue comes into play when there is a major drag, like a plow, or something that is sharing the power, like a bush hog. The BB does not produce that much drag unless you catch a tree stump or something/

I have a 6 foot Woods Box Blade on my NH TC33D with loaded R4 tires. I find it a good match for the tractor. Your JD 4300 is similar in capability to the TC33D, so I would figure you could handle a 6 footer.

What kind of tires are you running? are they filled or weighted? What kind of work are you planning on doing with it? For maintaining a gravel road, a 6 footer should work fine. for serious earth moving in difficult soil conditions, it may be too much, but then you'd probably want a dozer for that anyway.
