I have a brand X box scraper that I bought from a friend who was selling them out of his barn. The scarifiers had hardened shoes on them, but two of three shoes have worn off. Are these shoes replaceable and if so, where can I buy 'em?

Thanks in advance.

You can get complete shanks with tips here at Agri-Supply for $9.99.
I'm certain they sell just the shoes too, but couldn't find the link to them. A phone call would do it though.

Oh, you found it. Yup, that would work.
I knew they had them because I just bought 10 of them.
Punched on means the sides of it are "punched" onto the shank which should have indentations or holes where you punch it. To take them off, I use a flat punch and wedge it between the shank and the shoe...enough to open the shoe and get it off. Then I use either a ball peen hammer to punch the new one on or you can use a straight punch. You just need to indent the shoe so it doesn't come off.

Rob,

Speaking of box blades, did your reinforcement gussets solve the problem of shank breakage? (Asking to see if I should do the same.)

Yes,I've not had a single one break since then. I've even wore out the points on my old set and that is why I ordered replacement points only this time.:)
When you make that improvement, be sure to leave a slight bit of clearance all around so you can still move the shanks up and down. What I did was see how much play each shank had when held in place. I moved the forward and back and side to side. Then I used less than half of that play. In other words, the shank hits the protectors before reaching it's maximum amount of play allowed by the square tube. That keeps the square tube form deforming over the years but still allows you to move the shanks up and down.
Be sure to secure them with a huge gusseted and deeply penetrating weld. I've popped a couple off and had to re-weld them onto the square tube.

Thanks, Rob. I ordered a set. Only $2 apiece, $7 shipping, but over all a good deal. I do have indents in the shanks, they were just full of dirt and I didn't see 'em. If I need to I'll weld 'em on.

Thanks Rob. I saved a copy of the photo you posted as a guide to do mine.
