don't think I've ever even heard of a manual for a box blade
Well, Bird, I now have the ***
official*** Howse Box Blade Operator's Manual right here in my hot little hands. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
I also have a paper napkin here which contains about the same amount of useful information. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif
I will file this manual in the same place I keep the rest of my tractor documentation for now, but if I ever run out of space, this will be the first thing I toss. It is so blatently useless that it's almost amusing for that very fact. My four-year old son can't really write yet, but he could document circles around this thing in terms of valuable content. My good nature and respect for the works of others prevent me from saying what I
really think about this manual.
Just to ease your curiosity, let me describe the "contents" of this literary masterpiece:
- The vast majority of the 24-page "manual" is devoted to safety precautions. At a glance, these complex "machines", as they call them, can apparently fly apart and/or burst into flames! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
- There are two distinctly different versions of the box available -- "solid" (fixed rear blade) and "hinged" (the floppy kind), and they show side-by-side pictures to prove it. In the entire remainder of the "manual", there isn't a single word, not even a
whisper about the hinged blade.
- "Dual scraper blades on the rear allow the unit to be used in the pull or push modes." That is the beginning, middle and end of the narrative on the blades.
- Instructions for attaching the "machine" (the box blade) to the tractor, Step One: "Lift the machine and slide the balls over the mounting pins." Apparently you lift the box blade with one hand and manipulate the lift arms with the other. I need to spend more time at the gym.
- From that last instruction, I got curious about the actual weight of the thing, so I flipped to the "specifications" section. Hmmm... the weight isn't specified. Nor are the dimensions. Nor the number of rippers for the different models. Guess I have the wrong idea about what "specifications" means.
- The "Field Operation" instructions are basically, "set it flat on the ground" and "go slow".
Not sure what I was expecting, but I'm pretty sure this "manual" falls short. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
