Kubota B2910
I have a new Kubota B2910 and I am trying to find out a good box blade to get for my tractor. I am considereing a "First Choice" and a "Kubota" box blade. Could some of you guys give me some advice on these particular pieces of equipment? I have yet to see someone with a Kubota box blade but I have heard alot of people talk about the First Choice brand.
Thanks

On the top end--We are currently stocking the First Choice box blades in Orange and red and have had zero problems with them--We also carry a mid grade line of Atlas/Sunburst BB from the Red Bay, Al. facility--No problems with these and price is very competitive--Ken Sweet

I have a Kubota boxblade. The Kubota boxblades are the swing back type. I think most people find them more difficult to use for smoothing. The rear blade swings up thus preventing it from being used for smoothing in the forward direction. I have found this to be an advantage because I can set the box angle so that it cuts in forward and smooths in reverse---but I do all smoothing in reverse. I have figured this boxblade thing out by trial and error. They are probably the second most useful tool next to the FEL but much more challenging to learn. Position control is very helpful with one. Also having a hydrualic top link would be helpful also--but--with the swing back--I can, as I said, set the blade for two operations by changing directions. I would think a medium weight 5 foot blade would be a very good match for your 2910. J

I have a Woods HB60 (60") for my B2910 but don't have any real experience with it yet.

I would say the 5' width is about right for the B2910. You might be able to go a tad larger if you have soft soil.

I think the general rule of thumb is wide enough to cover your tire tracks and as heavy as possible.

The fixed vs. swinging tailgate seems to be a personal preference. The Woods HB 60 (over 500 lbs) has a swinging tailgate. I don't have enough experience with it yet to say that I wish it were fixed. I figured if it's ever necessary to do so, that it's easier to lock a swinging gate in place than to make a rigid gate swing.

Woods stuff tends to be a bit high priced, but that's what my dealer handles and I try to support him wherever possible. Other brands seem to offer similar performance for a few less $$$.

Good Luck,

Rick

Ken Sweet mentioned Atlas/Sunburst as a mid-grade line. For four years I have used an Atlas brand "Landscape Box/Heavy Duty Box Blade". Despite the HD in the name, I believe it is really more of a medium duty mid-grade blade. It performs fine. No complaints.

I have a First Choice 60" box blade and would buy another one tomorrow if mine disappeared from my barn. I wrote a post on it when I got it and included some pictures if you want to take a look.

Hi,

I wanted to buy a First Choice box blade, but could not make that happen.

Then I told my dealer I wanted a woods HB-60 and to get one for me. Two days later I got a call back that it would take a couple weeks as there were "none on the shelf and they would have to make it.../w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif "

So I ended up with a King Kutter, as I had put off my decision until I needed the thing, and could not wait two weeks, which might have ended up being three weeks or more for all I knew.

I know I don't know what I am missing, but the KK box does perform pretty well on the back of my B2910. It is a 5 foot box blade...not real heavy, my guess is 300+ lbs but I don't know for sure.

Seems to me whatever you get will be a plus. I would certainly get a box that was wider than the rear tires.

Some manufactures add a lock to their units with the swinging rear blade so you can have the best of both worlds if you get one of those.

Good luck in your decision. Don't wait till the last minute like I did if you want to get what you want...or you might end up with something less like I did...still works pretty good though /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
