Boxblade

Mile down the road from me is a retired farmer type that has dozens of implements in his front yard for sale. This ranges from a couple of old tractors, to a street sweeper!!

He has two brand new 6 foot boxblades. He says the brand is unknown. He "tinkers" buying/selling things in his retirement. He wants $280 for one of them, but since I'm a neighbor and if I want it "today", he'll give it to me for $275 (I couldn't help but to chuckle inside).

So, unknown brand, under $300, brand new 6 foot, 5 scarifiers if I recall.

I'm tinkering with cutting back driveway and grading in back of house with Brutus and boxblade would be handy.

Do I:

Buy it and if it breaks who cares...

-or-

Presume he might be buying them retail and upping the price on unsuspecting (and ignorant) passer buyer like me, therefore, (me) check around some of the local places and see what they have?

After all, if I buy it "TODAY", I save $5.00!!! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Richard, I paid $300 for a 66" King Kutter box blade new. It's a lot lighter duty than the serious models by Woods, Bush Hog etc. When shopping I did check a large used implement dealer and found nothing less than about $250 and that was a really wimpy looking piece that was beat up pretty bad. If you've got time, check out some of the name brands and compare steel thickness, welds, and "beef". What you found sounds like a reasonable deal for a lighter duty tool. I just bought a Befco 60" box scraper for $550
(it weighs 470lbs). I love it. Woods also makes a heavy implement as well. I think the key to any ground equipment is twofold: metal thickness (weight, sturdiness, etc.) and the quality of the welds. If unsure as to either of these, then I'd only buy from a proven manufacturer.

I use a Boxblade (orig from TSC) 60" that sells new for $300.00 (Wallace I think). I use it to maintain my 900' driveway and my Aunt's 700' driveway. Have not had any problems - very happy with it.

I paid $329 for a 6 ft King Kutter with 6 scarifiers at TSC assembled. Very happy with it. Good product for the money for a sometime user.

Thanks for replys, I have poked my nose around further and believe above mentioned box blade to be 1/4" steel on the side plates. A tractor dealer (Kioti, Same (?) and some other mainstream brands /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif) has a 7 foot box (which would cover completely the tracks of the tractor which is roughly 6 1/2 feet). Also a medium duty I believe he called it. Anyway, has the 1/4" steel instead of the 3/8. He want's $350 and I think I'm leaning towards that one. Seems to me that since I'm just simple "Joe HomeOwner" and plan on using it to complete my back patio it will probably suffice. I like the 7' size so I can get a bit closer to house and also cover tracks completely.
