Boxscraper for L4610

Jeff, I have a Monroe Tuffline boxblade I bought a couple months ago for my 1720. Like Bird said... it's one tough piece of equipment. I'm very pleased with mine.

The first box blade I got was a generic brand and the 1720 folded the mounting arms back within 2 hours of hooking it up the first time. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif I repaired the damage, sold that sucker and bought a real box blade.

I am biased - just so you know -

In addition to the raw weight of an implement, you need to consider how well it is constructed and engineered for the intended use. I looked at all of the box blades listed (and many more). The Gannon has features that make it a Clydesdale of workhorses. The scar bar is very high up from the ground allowing the worked soil to flow around the accumulated rocks and junk. It also has the ability to use either a floating or fixed tailgate blade. Good for really digging, or for finish work.

I am still a novice at the implement, but it is making me look good. Not the other way around. That's how I like tools to behave by the way.

Gannon is THE top quality in box blades. They are for construction use with large tractors and guys who are paid to get finished quick. Lots of bangs and crashes with no whimpers of complaint. Other brands, styles and grades of box blades are out there, but for the most rugged applications Gannon is on top.

Many people on this forum have other box blades and use the heck out of them with good results, too. Each of us has unique uses, unique land features, unique tractors to pull the implements and most importantly unique talents in the drivers seat. What I call "best" may be a nightmare for somebody else.

When I see a spread in price I wonder if the engineering is better, or the construction methods and materials. Or if I'm just getting ripped off!

Since you seem to be more sensitive to price and the Monroe people "seem" to have a good product at the lowest price, can you ask them to e-mail you a photo of the product? While it may not be THE best, it may be perfect for you.


If Glue Guy wants to update the table, my gannon H-120 is 66" wide, 829 pounds has a manual raise/lower of the whole scarifier bar, and I paid 1379.00 before tax.

The Gannon sounds impressive, as John says.
And the price seems very good for that type of ruggedness.

The "higher" scar-bar is an interesting feature, ...I'd like to see it in action compared to the others.

The hinged-or-fixed 'tailgate" is also a feature of the Landpride we've discussed.

It would be nice if all of these brands were available to be seen-in-person wherever we live. One element in my choice was that I didn't want to buy something sight-unseen, no matter how much "hype" there was,... and the LP looked better than the others I was able to see.
The opinions of some LP owners on TBN played a part, too. My guess is that the strong opinions of a number of respected members of this forum will insure that any of their recommended choices will not-be-a-bad-one.

If the use you will actually give it, in your situation (soil, etc.), will not damage brand X, then the fact that brand Y is 10-times-as-strong is not an issue. The practical reality is, though, that one never KNOWS just what strength is enough, so generally-speaking, more-is-better.

With that(and John's opinion) in mind, and with the Gannon being in between the LP and the Tufline, pricewise, sounds to me like it's worth a serious look-see.

Just before Christmas, and the move, I posted a pic of my neighbors Gannon Boxblade and the scarifiers. If you could find one square corner on that thing, I would be surprised. It was a total thrash job. What the heck he was trying to do, I couldn't tell you, as the individual was one you couldn't get a straight answer out of...if his life depended on it. That box was worth scrap metal, and that was it.

Thanks for all the advice! I wouldn't trade where I live for anything, but the bad thing about all this is because of where I live, the Gill is the only one I can go see, unless I drive over 150 miles one way. All of the products have their pictures on their sites, so I can at least look at them. John Bud, you have the H-120 and the next size(72") is the H-220-almost like the model# has something to do with price because it was in the $2200 range from the Gill dealer. If I have to spend $2000 for a boxscraper I will, but I'd rather not if I can help it I'd just like to get the right weight and something that I can't destroy with my size tractor and inexperience. My tractor dealer will sell me the Landpride at his cost, but it is still in the $1700+ range. I'll call him one last time and make sure his assistant gave me the right price(I saw his book was over $2000 retail on the LP3572). Thanks for all the positive comments about the few brands I am looking at, makes me feel pretty good about whatever I choose. I'll keep everyone updated and I can't wait to post a picture of the entire package-tractor,cab,FEL,and boxscraper!

Cost for LPMR3572 Boxscraper from local dealer was misquoted-should have been $2000.

Makes the decision a little easier though.

"List" prices for Landpride can be obtained @ (785) 823-3276 in Salina, Kansas.

My local dealer's quote for the LPMR357(8) a larger size(!) was $1720.
I paid $275 more for the HR version(hydraulic). My overall discount (from "list" on a pkg. deal incl. 35series rear blade/rake (both 8', guage wheels for both, dual on rake, single on blade, and the box scraper was just over 17%.

This was the best price from 3 dealers in my shopping area. I live in Dallas, Oregon. Unless you live a lot further from Kansas than I do, your dealer seems to be wanting an extra $300-$500 dollars in his pocket for the same merchandise. (neither of the other 2 dealers I went to was that high, ...maybe $150/$200 more than I paid. This would not have been enough to swing the sale away from them if I had not preferred the dealer from whom I bought, for other reasons). Are there no other LP dealers near you? /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Larry, thanks for the phone # to Landpride. It appears that list for the MR3572 is $2405- so dealer is under by $400.

Even if I could find a better price, the next dealer is over 100 miles away(1st is still 65 miles), and the next is over 160 miles away. It's time like these that I am reminded that I really do live out in the middle of no where! I think I might end up with that Monroe.

Now that all of us "experts" have given you the famous TBN data dump, you are an official expert on box blades! Congratulations! Unfortunately, you probably feel like you know less than you did when you asked the question. (Sorry if that's the case)

There are a few really really good brands out there. The Landpride 35 series is one of them, Gannon is one, Gill is pretty good from what I can tell, and yes the Monroe also sounds pretty good too. Rhino is also a very good industrial grade maker. They only have hydraulic scar bar boxes, so I had forgotten about them before. They are priced a bit above Gannon in my area.

If you want to get a strong implement and also want to save some money, you can look at the ones with "fixed" scarifier bars. The individual scarifiers are mobile up and down, but the whole bar is fixed. That alone can cut you price in half.

There is also the category of "rollover" box blades. I didn't look at them too closely, but I hear they are very productive.


You know what I and the rest of us howling coyotes bought and how our biases lay. From what I read and my limited understanding of your situation, I personally would be going to the Tufline box. A photo from them would be nice. Fortunately, my dealer cuts me a low price on implements and he is only 15 minutes away so your dilemma was avoided.

Best of luck and try and remember, the real measurable differences that exist between the boxes discussed are probably too small for casual users like you and I to truly detect. Make up your mind buy what feels like the best deal for you, and it will be a great implement.

Jeff, Tufline also makes a hydraulic box blade if you are interested in one. Also, you can get a hinged rear blade. I have toured their manufacturing plant in Mississippi. They are nice folks. It is a family owned company. Any one of the top 3 brands you choose will be a good one. After you buy one don't start thinking "maybe I should have bought the other one". Just be happy with the one you have.

I've appreciated the help from everybody! Lots of great info! No, I'm no expert, but I feel real good about the tractor I'm getting, as well as the all the attachments. Tried to get the price down on that Landpride, but even the out-of-state places couldn't compete with the price that I'm getting with my local dealer-a lot to do with shipping and a fairly decent price locally.
Roy, you are right about those people at Monroe, seemed like good people and I appreciate them making the heavier boxscraper for me.

Now I just have to get the tractor delivered before the boxscraper so I can get it off the trailer with FEL! It's coming soon!!!!! Can't wait to post some pictures when she comes.
