We had the same problem but no more! Get yourself a mosquito magnet. Not cheap but HIGHLY effective. Home Depot Sells them but you can also buy them used really cheap because most people don't know how to maintain them and they stop working. They are super simple to fix (a little cleaning) so you can take advantage of other people's ignorance.
They use a 20 pound propane tank and an attractant. I kid you not, in 1 week they will have trapped and killed thousands of mosquitoes. I'm talking like if you had stuffed a couple coffee cups completely full of mosquitoes.
They cost a bit to run but what they do is kill the females and break the breeding cycle so after a few years of use there will be less eggs to hatch. Last year we couldn't walk outside in the evening and after 1 month of use we could sit in the hot tub at night and not have a single bite.
The trick is to move it up wind and put it in a shaded area. The attractant draws them in which is why being up wind helps. The shade means they will be active and fly into the trap.
And by your name I presume you are in MN? They are the "State Bird" there!
Yes I am and yes they are! They grow big here.
I was walking through the woods one day when two mosquitoes swooped down and picked up this small child and started to carry him off. I stood there in shock not knowing what to do. Then I hear one of the mosquitoes say to the other, "should we eat him now or eat him later?" The other mosquito replied, "We better eat him now. If we take him home our parents might take him away from us."
Our auto insurance covers hitting one with a car the same as if you hit a deer. Covers glass breakage and everything. The only good thing about the size of them is when we have our annual 'skeet shoot. We're able to use either a rifle or a shotgun!
That sounds almost, not quite, but almost, as bad as Alaska.
No signs yet of there crazy cousins the blackflies which comes before...just matter of time.![]()
