for 6k, the NH frame is included, but they will be selling the bh for 5k plus the frame for mine. The hard part is that I allotted up to 7,500 bucks for BH, of course that was with the intention of buying a new one.

I have another question for you. The Backhoe came off a NH. wouldn't the power beyond kit pretty much be the same across the line? I assume some of the lines may be different lenghts. But the used BH already has the line kit, well for the NH anyway. I will be leaving shortly and look forward to taking a look at this tomorrow. Thanks a million for all your help.

Regards,

Bryan

My guess would be the power beyond kit stayed with the NH tractor - it has other uses so it would likely be left if the bh subframe was removed. Also, even if the flexible lines were similar length the hard tubing would be custom-fit to the NH. When you look it over, notice that the hydraulic lines for the backhoe (2 about 6 feet long each) plug in at the back of the tractor - those rear plug-in connectors are part of the "power beyong" kit that likely are still on the NH.

Yeah, that makes sense, silly of me not to see that at first. So, what I will do is tell the salesman exactly how I feel and let him know that truthfully this is something I want, it is not something I need. I am a little uncomfortable that knowing how much the sub-frame is you are still charging full list price for it. I can also wait until spring at which time other dealers will have more things and I can spend more money. Currently it looks like he will do it for 7,500 or so. If they can't come down any more, it is still worth it to me because of the quality sub-frame. So it they come down, they come down if not well it would have only been a few hundred dollars anyway.

Bryan

Anything in particular that I should look for to see if it is damaged or abused? I did find out the warranty does in fact transfer and it is for two years since it was purchased.

Ok, here is the latest. Keep in mind that I have to look at the unit for final purchase.

Bradco 509, 5k
mounting kit for M6040
Tractor half, subframe - 1375
Backhoe half, subframe - 590
power beyond kit, - 330
freight - 250
flush lines of back-hoe
pickup
install and add correct fluid
deliver
my total
7,250.

I think it is fair. I have gotten lower prices on new Bush-hogs and Woods, but install was extra.

Thanks for you help, I will let you know how it all turns out. Right now I am having them track down the purchase date. The two year warranty is transferable.

What should I look for when I inspect it?

It sounds fair to me too - sometimes installation can be a real project. It is also pretty lucky to find a nearly-new used backhoe. Not many of them out there - many people end up buying new or maybe a different tractor that has a backhoe fitted.

Some stuff to check: Look for any evidence of oil leaks - there shouldn't be any at the cylinders or fittings - except maybe a little around the quick connectors. Look for any parts that are not the originals (different color) and notice the condition of the hoses - Bradco does a good job of armoring and encasing hoses - all should be intact. Look over the digging bucket for loose teeth or egg-shaped pin holes or any welding repairs. Likewise the boom and dipper. The exposed piston rods should be pristine - shiny, straight and no scratches anywhere. There may be grease oozing out of the pins/bushings - this can actually be a sign that someone took good care of it by making sure it was lubed. It will be obvious whether it was abused or not. It's not so important how much it has been used, but how well it was treated by the operator.

Good luck and have fun.

hmmm... too good to be true? Now I find out the backhoe is 3+ years old and that the tractor it came off of only had 217 hours on it. Not that 217 hours is high by any means, but I am just getting a bit apprehensive now because the story seems to be changing. I guess I will sit tight until I can go look at it. I may just decide to rent one when I need one, then I don't have anything to worry about. I don't like renting though.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. At least I feel much more prepared. I really appreciate that.

Kindest Regards,

Bryan

If it's any comfort, 3 years and 217 hours is still new machinery. My rig is 10 years old and just turned 1000 hours - no issues at all. Your 509 sounds like somebody just changed their mind about what they needed - maybe there were payment issues, it might be perfect.

I agree it is still low hrs and should be in good shape. I had a small bradco on my last tractor for 2.5yrs without one issue, a friend of mine has a L4330 cab with a bradco that has been flawless for three yrs.

I agree 217 hours aren't much at all and three years aren't bad either. But this started off as a bh with only a 'few' hours and less than a year old. Now it is three years old, no warranty, ... blah blah blah.... If I would have known that up-front maybe it wouldn't be a big deal. I did however find out that list for a new one is like 11k. So it still seems like a decent deal.

The last thing I asked the guy to do is to check and see how much it would cost to re-pack a cylinder and find out how much it would cost to replace the bushings. I just wanted to have an idea of what I would be looking at. I also asked him to see if any welds are present and he said he would take a look at it. Evidently the guy who bought it traded it in on something larger, the tractor and BH were separated and they still have the BH. I will let you know what else I hear.

Oh and it is supposed to come with two buckets, 24 and 12. How much do buckets generally cost?

Buckets are expensive, I bought an 8" for my previous Bradco and it was just under 300.00, I would gather to say your are getting well over a grand in buckets alone.
