It's a bit late, but you might have looked near the back of the truck under the rear bumper or close to that area. many trucks have a plug-in connector at that location.
The adapter for the Dakota has a make and female ens, so it is designed to install by un-plugging the factory harness at the plug connector and plugging the harness connector in between. The Harness connector has wires and a trailer plug to be mounted to the vehicle.
They do make a 7 pin harness for the Dakota so the BLUE wire may terminate in that connector.
