I know there's a starter interlock switch underneath the left floorboard. That's why you have to push the clutch pedal to start the engine. Look beneath the right floorboard for a similar switch on the brake linkage. That's likely what turns on the brake indicator in your instrument cluster. My guess is that it's a "hey stupid" light intended to warn owners not to start moving with the brake pedals still locked in the park position.
